Wedding Guest

So I am going to a friends wedding in two weeks and I'm a bit stuck on what to wear. I have known both the bride and groom for almost 10 years. She is a fashion designer and he is a janitor (lol, he gets mad if I don't call him a custodian) which makes for an odd couple but they are good together and that's what counts.

ANYWAY....... back on track.....

She has designed all the clothes for the wedding party. The girls have very stylish dresses but to my surprise the guys are wearing khaki pants and white dress shirts. So now I'm at a loss because wearing my nice suit may be overkill.

I'm thinking of going now with a sport coat, no tie, dress pant thing but I'm having a bit of trouble finding something. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good sample pictures of what I'm looking for to give me a better idea...

Thanks for the help...

PS. My band is also playing a short 5 song set at some pooint in the night...200 people is the biggest crowd we have played to date. Can't wait!

I'm not doing the khaki thing...don't even own any. haha

I have my trust suits for work and a bunch of shirt tie combos but in the last six months I have slimed down and toned up a decent amount so I would like something a bit more fitted than what I currently own. Also, I fond the cut and style of my couple suits a bit out dated.

My wife's friend is a fashion rep/executive coach/motivational speaker. She REALLY frowns on the thought of men wearing a jacket with no tie, especially with a dress shirt, collar "winged" out. I won't repeat what she says :) She uses Dana White from the UFC as someone luckily successful with NO fashion sense whatsoever :) She can't believe he goes on worldwide TV dressed like that!!

I've talked to the bride about it at the jack and jill they had earlier this month. The problem is no one other than those involved in the planning really knows what is going on so there will be the usual wedding wear. Most men will be in suits.

FL, While I can understand what your wife is getting at I have to disagree. Depending on the venue I think the look you mentioned can be pulled off if done with the proper pieces.

LMAO. Yeah, this is a useful piece of fashion. You never know when you will need to run into the jungle to hide from enemies crashing the reception. ;)

Years ago, I tended bar for a wedding at a friends deer camp. There was lots of camo fashion going on there. :) I found the camo cumberbun while we cleaned up and saved it for the right occassion. It just hasn't come up yet

I've done it in the past but they SWEAR it's a big fashion NO NO. Maybe for a wedding, no one will notice or care. In any sort of professional or biz environment is what they worry about. I wear dress shorts and rockabilly bowling shirts to weddings here in FL. If that's not good enough, me and my wedding present (check) will go home :p

The guest is supposed to figure out what to wear by the formality of the invitation, the time of the event and the formality of the venue. So if it's an outside wedding in a park during the day and a casual invite that would constitute casual dress. If it's an evening reception in a hall, formal dress.

I wouldn't worry about dressing fancier than the wedding party. If they dress more casual than the invite, the time and the venue then it's not the guest's fault if they dress more formal than the wedding party.

So, where is the reception and what time?

Sometimes people don't get that. My wedding was outside, just before dusk, in a very casual setting. We even said "casual" on the invitations. Of course she wore the classic white dress. I wore my dress blue uniform as I was still in the military at the time. My best man wore a navy suit and the maid of honor wore a blue dress. But as for the friends and family; who we expected to dress casually; the men all wore suits and the women all wore dresses. Everyone was seriously overdressed for what we were going for. However, my brother got it. He dressed casually. But he was the only one.
