Weezer/Matt Sharp Jazz build

All done! Picked it up from Jack Ellis at Jack's Instrument Services in Salford, Manchester this morning. Great guy to work with, did all I asked and was helpful in guiding me with what needed doing. And cheap too!

You need to send another email to Matt and ask for his signature. You could then have it made into a waterside decal and add it to the headstock: "Matt Sharp" in script with "Weezer Model" below!

First post ever! Glad it was on this thread, I literally was just searching for Matt Sharp's bass because I ran into some cheap Jay Turser model that reminded me of it. You did a fantastic job, I've never seen anyone do something like this. Most of the time the underrated bassists, not to mention ex-bassist of Weezer probably don't get much attention. I'm a BLUE/Pinkterton fan through and through, so this bass is super nostalgic. Excellent attention to detail.
Funny thing is, I'm a guitar player, but I do own a Squier Vintage Modified P-Bass. Matt's bass was always awesome to me because of the color match and the sweet Tele headstock. I recently finished a very similar project for an Andy Summers Telecaster, turned out very cool (check it out on TDPRI under Policefan7). I love these kind of custom projects because a lot of care goes into them and they are much more fun than just buying it off a rack (though I probably would have done that haha). I'm actually looking to take a Fender BlackTop HH Strat in Sonic Blue and make it into a Rivers guitar.
Anyways, I was curious as to if your bridge was an exact replica of his. And also, in the Blue album insert, it really looks like Matt's bass has some "blade" pickups in for lack of a better term, or lipsticks maybe? Either way, they don't quite look like the ones you have. Are yours an "uncovered" version or just his more modern ones that he's been using with The Rentals? Or am I just totally off...
Excellent job though, it looks killer, you have to give us some vids with that....and get an Orange head lol.

The bridge that Sharp used was a Hamer branded Schaller. So yeah, they're exactly the same, except Sharp's had 'Hamer' across the both of the bridge. He sold it actually last year...think it went for about $300. Bit more than I wanted to pay!
I know what you mean about the pickups. The inside of the Blue album is the only picture that has hinted at different pickups. According to Karl and Matt, it's always had Schecter Monstertones. In pictures from 1993 and 1994, you can see them, so that leads me to think it's just maybe some lighting on the blue album insert.
As I said though, sourcing those pickups almost killed me. Took about 2 years and finally got some off a lovely chap on here. I was only going to go through with it if I had the right pickups so once they showed up, everything else fell into place.
And I had an Orange AD200B until about 4 weeks ago!! It's a shame that I couldn't try the bass through that rig, but I'm not ruling out picking another one up at some point. It's going through a GK800RB at the moment and sounds amazing.

So Mr. Undone, I think your bass may have met it's counterpart today: I've been working on a River's Blue Strat copy. I figured everyone who is passionate about your bass would appreciate this. Plus, I truly am a guitar player creeping on all your precious bass pages here because I can't help it!

Had to have that on there to complete the look. This guitar sounds great and plays amazing. This was all done under $600 as well, so relatively on the cheap. Kinda ironic that I'm the one with an Orange head though huh!? Matt Sharp was the man with =w= so naturally I was attracted to these particular forums. PS, I say Undone and I do some YouTube collaborations with our axes, Hit me up bro!!! Here are my pics:

Nicely done! I always wanted to put a tele neck on a Jazz bass since seeing Weezer in the 90's. I still may have to do it, looks amazing.

Per your the pictures at the beginning of this thread, isnt his bridge a chrome one thats had most of the chrome worn off not black?

Nope, it's definitely black. Not sure if I mentioned it in the thread, but Matt sold the bridge a while back on ebay and there were tons of pictures. It was branded 'Hamer' and if I remember right, it was all scratched at the bottom. Sold for around $300, so...yeah!...didn't buy it!

The description said they'd be perfect for a Matt Sharp bass replica...can't help but feel responsible for that! They might be rare, but they're not worth that much.

Hi, firstly congratulations on such a beautiful replica- it looks beast!
Secondly, I'm a guitarist looking to buy my first bass, so I'm asking for your opinion really, as you seem like you have the same influences as me, albeit only one out of one thus far haha.
I really like the sound of Matt Sharp and Ronnie Barnett of The Muffs. Obviously they may have a whole range of differences in what specs their basses have, but in your opinion, what would be a good bass to start looking at to kind of get a combination of the two or anything that gives that old 90s punk/nerd rock kind of sound?
Finally, are you in a band yourself or have any footage of yourself playing? I'm from the UK myself- Sheffield to be more precise.

I just wanted to point out that I own Matt Sharp's actual bass. The one that Why Bother was recorded with. That is all.
