Weird Bass from Japan - The B-Bass

I think it's hilarious that it has identical tone to most Fender Jazz basses I've heard (presumably because it has the same electronics configuration and pickup layout). It just goes to show how little wood choice and body size/shape affects tone, despite all the furore surrounding those things.

It has Alder body, 32 inch maple neck, rosewood board and GOTOH hardware.

on some active basses that would be the case, but on passive basses the wood choices/ wood age/ etc. make a huge difference in tone and it does does matter .

Well done sir! Actually looks alright like that! Really similar in shape to the modern daisy basses, as has been said.

It’s def in the vein of the old Yamaha Samurai basses and other bizarre but kind of cool 60’s era basses out of Japan.
Don’t think I’d be seen on stage w/ this one, but I appreciate the willingness to step out of the box.
This is kitschy and proud - I can appreciate that. Funny, there are some boutique “coffee table” basses I find more bizarre than this (they just lack the sense of humor...)
Music is fun, basses should be fun - make yourself smile; you like it, play it; if not, don’t play it, have a chuckle & move on.

Ikebe has some “limited edition” (I.,e., colors) steinberger spirits. The “Hot Rod Yellow” 4 string looks cool, and definitely cheaper than the B bass. (Maybe I should sacrifice myself for the team and go play one of each? Ikebe Bass Station is about 20 minutes from work...)

The Letter B just doesn't sit well on the lap either, unlike the letter "K".
