Weird front panel light show (Mesa D-350 content)

Yeah, you gotta' help us out with this one.

For a short time, I played in a band with some kids about half my age. They were 23, when I was 46. We played a series of frat parties and tailgater deals at a local University. Something every week. It was amazing how many inebriated college kids tried to put a beer on my WalkAbout Scout. And if you know anything about how that combo-cab is designed, if a logneck gets turned over on top of one, it would practically funnel beer right through the cooling slots on top to the goods inside. I always imagined there would be a hiss and a pop, and my gig would be prematurely over. So it was a constant battle all night; HEY MAN, DON'T PUT YER BEER ON MY AMP! YEAH YOU, MOVE YER DAM DRINK DUDE! THANKS!

Maybe if I'd kept a pet boa on there...

Hmm... maybe an attack boa would be more effective.

Interesting that you mention this... our last cyber-security training was on the subject of vulnerability of USB devices to hackers. This is (or can be) an issue with IoT (internet of things) devices of all kinds, devices can write code to computers and other devices that communicate with the internet. The Subway USB connection is 100% hardware protected, it's impossible for there to be any hacking or data harvesting of any kind.
My company's IT department recently disabled USB memory stick functionality on all our computers. It's apparently too risky.

Certainly doesn't have to, but on my recently purchased D-350 I use that to charge the wireless between the bass and amp. It's quite convenient.

I can see that as a plus.

Personally, I'd probably not use it. And If I ever get an amp that for some reason has one, I'd stick a cover/plug on it.
USB is everywhere these days, and I see issues pretty much constantly at the venue(s) I work at.
Almost as common as performers walking around at festivals asking the local crew for 9V batteries....

What specific issues are you referring to?

Boy am I glad to hear that ... was always afraid Getty could steal some of the bass riffs from my amp. ;; )

Does a amp really have to have USB anyhow?

I'm not feeling all this "functionality" that's being crammed in to these tiny class D things.

I have worn out USB jacks on other devices. /Shrug

The USB feature has been very well received by players. If you don’t want a USB power port, there are a LOT of amps without them that you can choose.

The USB jacks used on the Subway amps are a commercial/industrial version of the USB-A, not consumer grade USB-B or C. We have not had a single jack failure since this feature was introduced.
Not to mention that everyone is welcome not to use it if they don't want to.

Would a tip-ring-ring-sleeve (for headsets with mic) be...
A) possible without being problematic

B) economical

C) useful or desired

D) a silly idea

??
Just thinking out loud

That gets into the consumer audio arena, and my experience is that the lifespan of 3.5mm jacks in general is pretty poor for a product that is expected to last for 20+ years. It's fine for throwaway products, but to have an amp fail because of an inherently weak part would be frowned upon by our customers.

I see. I was practicing the other day and when a song came up I have lead vocal on it occurred to me I have no way of monitoring vocal when I have the music and my bass coming through my headphones. I eyed my gaming headset suspiciously for a second as a light bulb lit in my mind. Agreed, headsets with mics are generally not an MI thing, but in that instance it struck me as a possible useful feature.

Thanks for clarifying why it's not a thing.
