My dad used the phrase 'get bent'. As in when telling off someone, they should get bent.

Decades later I'm still not quite sure of the exact meaning, but I certainly can tell by the inflection that it wasn't meant in a nice way. (No, it doesn't mean get bent out of shape, either.)

That was my dad's line any time someone hit a long fly ball that was easily caught in a pro baseball game. Meaning, if you're playing in the park with your friends and you hit the ball 360 feet, it's a probably home run. In the pros, it's no better than a strikeout.

I watched a lot of baseball with my dad, and I swear he said this at least once in every game.

RIP dad. I miss watching baseball with you. I'll try to carry on the tradition.
