I apologise for the slight thread hi-jack facepalmmaster, but I can't resist...
The FB extension was mostly for the looks, and the intonation was a bit off as well, since I didn't compensate the frets enough.
It did look quite good, from the little I can recall, it was almost 25 years ago after all

Thanks a ton for posting that pic, it was stored on my crashed computer so I lost it a while back.
Well, I sure think it's the same bass, but IIRC that's the photo that was posted on an Finnish on-line auction site a few years back with the title "Julma Hevibasso" that roughly translates as Cruel Heavy bass.
I even wrote a comment on its history, but the seller claimed it was his own work. Given the highly unusual shape, and the extreme rarity of that Ibanez PU I somewhat doubt that, but obviously I can't be 100% sure.
We Finns are wired funny that way, so maybe he had the same inspiration I had

I also started a thread on it on an Finnish musicians site, asking about its whereabouts a while back, but no luck so far.

As much as I'd want to claim it was the next best thing since sliced bread, sadly it wasn't.
At least not with the electronics I installed.
The budget oriented me cheaped out on the pickup, that's a runt of the litter Ibanez aftermarket humbucker from the bargain bin, and the tone was pretty thin. The far back location sure didn't help any. If You look closely, you'll see quite a few switches, series/parallel, in phase/out of phase, and single coil IIRC. Those were removed by someone if the bass in the pic cdef posted is really the one I made. And quite frankly, I don't blame them for doing that.
If that's the J that I sold to the first buyer (can't remember whether I installed it or did he do it), it's even worse, it cost the eqvivalent of 2$ new.
You have to understand that we were in our late teens, we weren't actually made out of money. So we cut corners whenever we could.
The bass was made from good woods though, so the acoustic tone was way better than on my store bought bass, so just a PU swap would probably have made it a very good player. It also balanced very well and it was relatively light. Compared with Ibanez Blazer at least.
That was a shape I grew out of very fast though....
