And howdy Knifemaker!!! Yuppers I took the Ric plunge...and what a great plunge it was. Total, total keeper. I just put the pup cover on it. Looks sweet. Great place to rest the hand too. I miss that. My first bass had the pup cover and ashtray and I got real used to that hehe. My T40 and Cowpoke get to rub strap buttons with a Rickenbacker now... never would have imagined that a couple of years ago LOL
WOW, thats all I can about these basses...WOW. My GAS had been pretty lukewarm for awhile save for keeping my eye out for a Ric.. now that I got one and my T40 and Dyna and my Cowpoke, theres just no other place to go in my book. Im there and happy. ^_^ The cure for GAS is a Rickenbacker....

I stoked for you that you like your New Ric
I myself have wanted one for well over 20 years when i found a really great deal on one
Mapleglo Built August of 1980 (split pick guard as you can see)
after i got it home and ran it through my rig i absolutely hated it
it felt good, played well, and looked great, but i honestly could not get a decent sound to my ears out of it, no matter what i tried.
I contemplated doing the cap mod, and putting toasters, or a mudbucker in it....
congrats to you, but i still have g.a.s. !

Wow that bass is down right beautiful! Looks just like Geddy Lee's from that era. Im so jealous! Congrats!!!
Actually, the set up isn't an issue and mine does play well (my wording was incorrect in my first post about it not playing great). I've played Rickenbackers on and off for many years, and my love/hate relationship with them continues. But I will always have one in the arsenal. They are truly beautiful instruments.
Yeah, I guess that not everyone can find the string spacing or the neck as comfortable, it's such a personal thing that often you don't know 'til you try something.
For myself, I can't find anything as comfortable, and I have little reason to try.
I keep my mind open to trying different basses, but so far nothing really speaks to me like a Rick.
I couldn't have said all that better myself. I too have always kept my mind open to trying different basses, and have went through many over the years. The one that finally speaks to me is a bass that I originally always ran from and avoided during the 20 plus years I was playing RICs, Music Man's, and everything else under the sun. A Fender P.

Very pretty Ric you have! I love the sound of mine and its bridge pup I was told was a bit off and the sound of mine is just amazing though. I cant wait to get the new bridge pup and surround next month!
The old one will get wrapped up and put in its case for posterity sake hehAnd, well, my gas is done. It actually was pretty much done save for waiting for my Ric to come along. My GAS had been taken care of between the T40, the Dyna and the Cowpoke. Between the three of them there was no gas. Their necks are a bit different bit it was like their necks were all different versions of my dream neck so it worked great. And I love the sounds I can get from all three so that was covered. All I can tell you is keep looking and take a look where youd least expect to find the cure for your gas. ^_^
Its funny cause I love narrow necks and close string spacing (my dyna just blows me away). My Ric doesnt quite have that but just the way its been done just totally does me. My Ric is now the bass I grab first out of my other ones thats for sure. That neck just blows me away and the feel of the body and everything about it. Its THE one for me. So I suppose wider string spacing and wider necks I can like..all depends on how its done. And this Ric nailed it dead on.
No prob! And yes Fender Ps are totally awesome arent they? I avoided them like the plague too because of my first experience with one. A lawsuit memphis copy that had the worst set up neck I think ever LOL my 13 year old self was like 'if the copy is this bad the original has to be total garbage' (I know makes no sense, right? Hey I was 13 and didnt know better LOL) and I stayed as far away from Fender as I could... till I joined here. Before it was over I was at the music store playing an 08 Fender P and then bought a 95 Fender P special. Its not going anywhere anytime in the next few decades either!!
