By the way, I drove about 2 and half hours to try out an nv610. Brought my Ampeg 810 with me and A/B'ed them side by side.

Guess which one I came home with?

I'll give you a hint.

congrats! & IMHO its an easy cab to move about-sure I did put skid rails on the back of mine- but even without 'em its a tilt & roll, tilt & slide in cab if U got a vehicle that can accommodate this. I VERY rarely have to lift mine, & when I do it's usually only up a foot at most!

Last weekend's gig was on the 2nd floor of a small Irish pub -- I did not know this ahead of time. I instantly regretted that I had my Bergie NV610 with me instead of my HS210/HS210 stack. I knew I had to ask one of the guys to help haul it up the stairs... and this was a band I was subbing with! The keyboard player volunteered. He freaked a little when he saw the cab, but even though he was at the bottom he said he had no trouble lifting it up the steps (his keyboard amp weighs more than the NV610). The top handle made the lift easy enough for me and my bad back. It was a little tougher for him on the way down because he had to step backwards, but when I offered to buy him a drink for his trouble he declined, saying it wasn't a big deal.

I wouldn't say that NV610 + stairs is a breeze, but 100 pounds split two ways isn't bad at all, and it's certainly easier than one person with a 4x10.

I have never in my life wished a weekend would go so fast. But I got an email today that my new NV610 has shipped. The tracking number confirms that the scheduled delivery is Monday. I've never, ever looked forward to a Monday before. But now I can't wait. I'll post pics Monday night. :hyper:

The short way to describe it would be that the HS stack has more air on top and bottom -- due to the tweeter and the port, respectively. The HS210 and HS410 are wonderfully punchy for ported and tweetered cabs, but don't quite have the sealed box magic. But as you would expect, the HS cabs have better fidelity and flatter response than the NV610.

Also: because of its design, the NV610 sounds better (to my ears) when grit/overdrive/distortion is used. Sure, I can turn the HS tweeters down or off, but the result is not quite the same. I do use grit when using my HS stack, but I always have to tweak the high end to eliminate the buzzy bees effect. The NV610 sounds delightfully gnarly yet smooth even with heavy OD.

Volume-wise, you get exactly what you'd expect from the NV610 (plenty!), whereas the HS cabs almost seem to defy the laws of physics. At an outdoor gig with no PA support, a bassist friend was genuinely amazed at their performance.

P.S. I wield a fiver, and have never been afraid to use the B string. :ninja: :smug:
