If it's thin, IMHO I'd suspect that the effect is minimal, if any at all. If the thickness is a bit more ( more than 5mm I'd guess) then I think there would be an effect on the sound (the "warm" growl as you've been told).

Then again the sound comes out of the characteristics of individual components (woods, hardware, pickups, preamp, strings frets or lack of them etc), the matching of them and the player's touch. My .02

why, i only left to choose my pcikups and i thought of a wenge top since one luithier recommended me so i wanted an opinion.
i have chosen a body neck and finger board so iim wondering whcih pickups to choose and maybe adding a top, why isn't it relevant in the project?

Pickups and electronics will have more of an impact.
wood= weight,stability,tone,appearance
pickups=tone
pickup placement=tone
electronics=tone,tone,tone

Electronics IMHO and IME can only manipulate what is there (coming from the construction part first and then from the pickups and pickup placement)

IMO I think you should talk to just one luthier (I don't know who this person may be) who's works coincide with the direction you're heading too.

ok.... he means SPECIFIC placement, where in accordance to the bridge or neck?

and you really need to focus on pickups and placement and electronics. BUT the wood is the icing on the cake:cool:.
for EQ i suggest glockenlang, nice and warm but very versatile.
pickups go to the comparative jazz thread
and to make it a little warmer move the neck pickup a little closer to the neck

wow, OK so ill focus on pckups placement, well i dont know much about it. can you give me some info about different common placement that are used today?, that may be matched with the sound i mentioned above.
or there common placements for fretless?

(korina body,maple neck,ebony fingerboard) fretless bass
