I've heard word that you can call MF and they will work with you on the exemptions. Haven't tried it, though.
My emailed MF coupon worked with the V3 200 even though the amp already has a markdown. But the markdown is across the board from Fender. Other sales items and non-sales items I tried didn't work with the coupon. I figured they were all on the ridiculously long exemption list. I don't know why the emailed coupon worked, while the regular holiday 20% discount didn't. I didn't buy it anyway.

I can't advise on your question, but I can recommend USED at GC. I understand the desire for a fresh axe, but I've bought USED from GC a few times. Once I didn't like the feel.....they took it back with no questions and paid the return shipping. My MIM J-bass came in MINT condition (w/hard case) for $500....love it. Good luck with your search.
This is true. I have bought numerous American Standards from MF and as long as you call them, as opposed to trying to do it online, they will apply those coupons to American Standards. I've done it many times and the coupon always got applied. I'm not purchasing an American Standard at full price -- that's crazy talk. Sam Ash will also match MFs coupons.
Ordered the USA Nitro Honeyburst P today! You guys where correct about no stacking discounts on the Am Std I was talking about But they did apply the coupon to the Nitro.However the 36mo no interest doesn't apply when you use another discount.They give 6mo no interest,but that's no big deal.

I drove 80 miles one way today to try out a 90s Fury (P type) at Guitar Center, Candy Apple Red. I've got a Squier VM Fretless Jazz that I was considering trading because I'm not loving it. The trade offer was less than I had wanted so no transaction took place.
Anyway, I picked up this Fury (listed for $199 "scratch and dent") and thought it had strong bones. Overall I could definitely see the appeal, though this particular example had seen better days. Chipping paint, rusting pole pieces and nasty gunk under the knobs and at the bridge. A refinish, new pickup and thorough cleaning would make this a jolly good bass. I'm just not looking for a project right now.
Next I picked up a gorgeous blue TMB100. The neck on these feels incredible and the fit and finish was excellent for $199. I didn't get a chance to plug it in because it was just me with my 3-year old and 5-year old so I was distracted.
The search continues. At the end of the day I know that what I really want is a single-pickup P-Bass. I've been listening to A LOT of Queen lately and Deacon's tone makes me melt. It's time for me to come full circle back to a P-Bass; that much I know. Now I just need to find the right one and make the finances work out.

GC has to move A LOT of wood & screws to make the monthly rent. Trade-in's are all about realizing a good turn of profit. Especially because it's a question of how long that trade will take up rack/floor space.
Plus, they buy from a manufacturer at cost & then mark it at MSRP. Same with trade-ins. That's retail.

I've found the squier p basses to be excellent. You could make a lateral swap with your VM.
No. I just spent $200 getting a guitar shipped from California to Houston. That's a lot of money for something that's not going to bring in a big price tag to begin with. Local sales only from now on for me.
100% valid points. I've worked in the car business (read: dealership world) for six years now. I fully understand that this VM Jazz is worth more to me than anyone else. They offered $115.00 trade in, which is roughly half of the average used price on their website. I get it. Still never fun to hear.
I'm going to hold out a bit and reevaluate later on. That $115 may someday be just what I need to finish funding my new P-Bass. Life goes on. You earn money and then you spend it. Life is good.
I've always found the best prices are fetched in the local classifieds. Facebook market place seems to have more traffic/postings than craigslist these days, but CL still gets used. If you're in no rush, post it for a high price and wait for a nibble, see what happens. I see VM basses listed anywhere from 100-300 bucks.
