My cover band just got voted the second best band in the Hudson Valley. Apparently there were 60 bands in the poll. It's cool, but I really didn't think it meant much and we didn't really promote ourselves. The results were posted last night and today we get a call from a pretty nice venue we haven't played in over a year congratulating us and asking us to book a date. I guess it paid off. Probably should have pushed a little to make it to number one. Well, there's always next year.

Where abouts do you play? I'm in Kinderhook, just below Albany,I might have to check out the number 2 best cover band in the area! :)

I'm flashing back! Congratulations:thumbsup: from a guy who cut his teeth at camp fires and venues from Tivoli to Newburgh...40 years ago! I don't suppose that Frivolous Sal's Last Chance is still standing...that was my favorite stage. Tell me more..."Sing Me Back Home"...

We're at Mirabella's in Saugerties on Saturday. We mostly play Poughkeepsie and south. We play a couple of places in Connecticut as well.

We're typically on the west side of the Hudson, but we've played a few gigs in Newburgh, most notably Orange County Choppers (just outside of Newburgh). Newburgh has gotten a lot better in recent years, the murder rate may have even declined a little. The water front is very nice.

It's more marketing than anything else, but we'll take it. We may have taken 1st if we promoted it more, I didn't even vote for our band. I'm waiting for a post from the #1 band's bass player, he must be a member of TB if they're that good. From what I've heard they're excellent, although I haven't seen them myself.

Congratulations! When you consider the subjective factors that produce results like that, the difference between number one and two is questionable. Statistically, in a situation like this, the easiest measure to justify using is one of directionality within the whole cohort. Your band is just about as positive or "well liked" (whatever these things measure) as it can get. It's both some kind of objective triumph and also a recognizable kudo to your band's commercial appeal (duly noted by venue owners who understand that "very good" is more meaningful than "one" or "two").

Why have I thought so much about this? Because not long ago, I was in a band that was rated second among a similar number of bands to yours in a smaller geo area. We struggled to figure out how to declare our victory - and struggled, and struggled. Good luck and congratulations - may the booking gods smile upon your plucky band!

As a mathematician (my day job is teaching math) I agree 100%. We've actually created our marketing theme based upon this.

We may be the second best band in the Hudson Valley, but our fans are Number One!

It's a way to use the result in a positive fashion.
