Westone Thunder 1a Fretless - Serial number dating

I have bought a beautiful Westone Thunder 1a Fretless active bass which has given me no end of pleasure over the 3 years I have owned it, but I have never found out when it was actually manufactured, despite looking on line. I believe it was manufactured sometime in the '80s but have no idea for sure. The serial number is: 3111663

Does anyone know if it is possible to date a Westone bass from its serial number or where to look to find out the year of manufacture? If so does anyone know when this was manufactured in the Matsumotu factory? Any clues would be appreciated.

Great. Thank you. I had a good look at the website and found that the first figure is the year in which the bass was made. In this case it indicates it was made in 83 as the serial number starts with a 3. The next two are the month and the last 4 I presume are the production numbers for that year. Thanks.
