What’s your oldest bass?

My oldest bass also has the distinction of being my first bass.
1961 Epiphone Newport
Still have it, I've been refurbishing it, little by little for the last 4 months.
I'm at about 90% finished. Long post and photos to follow,..soon.

The Bass I have owned the longest is a L3 Steinberger made in 1983 which I bought in 1990

I found it at my local (Mayfield Heights, Ohio) Sam Ash last November around Thanksgiving.

It is in superb condition for its age.

Thats a beauty for sure and in great condition. But not mine. Mine was black. The shape made the transition to a Ric much easier IMO.

I believe this is called Duff Mckagan Artist series now.

My longest held bass is my early 90's pre-Gibson Tobias Classic. First and (so far) only custom build. Really special. Zebra top, alder body, pau ferro board.

1970 Rick 4001. Purchased when I was in 11th grade, 1979. Just recently had the frets Re-dressed, plays like a dream. Sounds exactly like a vintage Rick with roundwounds Should.

My longest held bass is a Music Man Stingray 5 with a 1998 body and electronics and a 1993 neck.

I'm guessing about 1973 for my Mosrite clone Univox Hi-Flyer surf/punk short-scale I refurbished and converted to piccolo bass with D'Adarrio strings. My cheapest too at $62usd. Sadly, even with only four strings my arthritic fangers still can't make chords I can strum. Oh, well, it sounds good and is fun to play in the guitar octave.

My oldest is 17 y/o Fender Highway One Jazz Bass my mom bought me new during Got-a-buy-on-get-one-half-price at a guitar shop closing sale. My brother got a telecaster type guitar half price. I played my JB in high school bands. Later in life I acquired a Warwick corvettes fretless and LB-100. Moving back to my hometown soon. Maybe play the JB with some of my old bandmates.

I was 18 and just out of school.
It's the very first thing I ever bought on credit.
It's been on the road a lot.
Still sits in my room today.

That's some honest road-worn patina, can't fake that. Fender should have never blown up the headstock so grossly, the old narrow ones are so cool and svelte.
