Double Bass What about David Williams?

I was listening to a Cedar Walton album (The Trio Vol.1) and thought at first it was Sam Jones ... (found out later that he replaced Jones after his death)

I never heard his name being dropped. Not in real life not on TB ... Doesn't do justice to his playing IMHO - or just another example of my ignorance ... In any case I'd be curious what you do think ...

Saw him play at Donte's in L.A. many years ago with Cedar Walton. He sounded great!
He is on an L.P. called Night Talk by my old friend saxophonist Doug Richardson (R.I.P) both upright bass and electric bass. Sounds great on both. He seemed to be quite active in the 70's and 80's. I'm not sure he's still with us because I also don't hear his name as often as I used to. At Donte's I remember him playing thru an Ampeg B-15. I don't remember the pickup. This had to have been in 1975!

Yes, thank you, I was just surprised not having seen him mentioned never nowhere. Maybe because people don't appreciate doubling DB and BG? On the other hand there must be quite a few of accomplished players flying under the radar. I liked the recordings with Cedar Walton & Billy Higgins very much because of his time & sound. There is also duo record with Walton "Duo" that has nothing to hide compared to the big names ...

He's great! Especially alongside Billy Higgins. Replacing Sam Jones in with Higgins and Cedar Walton was big shoes to fill, but he always sounds fantastic. Apparently he was on the scene in London for a bit before he moved to New York but I've never managed to find out who he played with here.

I've read through a few from the piano player interviews (not gotten to DW yet, haven't even seen that it was there) and I found all of them quite good. He has a way for making people talk things apart from the typical preformated answers.
Everybody has an agenda, nothing wrong with that as long we keep to be critical readers.
