what about the drummer?

They're supposed to do a side project with the guitarist of King Crimson some time in the near future.

Will Lee and Neil Peart! I'd like to see Tim Alexander play for Dream Theater, he would complement the music well, and John Myung sounds amazing with Portnoy as it is.

Jesse, Tool's drummer is Danny Carey, and he's a monster. He was the first guy I thought of when I was trying to decide upon an interesting rhythm tandem. I'd be interested to see what he and Geddy Lee could come up with. Both have strong prog-rock roots, and Carey's sense of intricacy would really give Lee an interesting platform to play off of, IMHO... not that Neil Peart did a bad job for him either. ;)

for all you fusion heads out there...

If you picked up Extraction, then you know what Dennis Chambers and Victor Wooten are capable of.

I also like Vinnie Colaiuta w/ Abe Laboriel Sr. If any of you guys live in L.A. then you know that the Jazz Ministry is playing @ the Baked Potato at the end of the month. If you didn't know that and you live in L.A., than you probably live under a freakin' rock!

Yeah I thought that Extraction album was over playing to the maximium. I much prefer the vital tech tones.

I have one of those baked potato Cd's somewhere. Abe Sr. is the man!!!!

WHAT!?!?!!?

I'm sorry man, but Extraction kicks VTT's butt!!! I'm also a fan of both S. Henderson and S. Smith, but as far as drumming, I much prefer Dennis Chambers. His grooves are more original that Steve Smith's. You gotta admit that.

EXTRACTION is the best trio i've seen this year. There's a thread about this in AUDIOPHILEIMPORTS.COM. This is a great site for fusion heads ONLY. Check it out!

I love Dennis too man he was great with the Pfunk his solo album is killing his stuff with Rodney "skeet" Curtis was great, Niacin was decent when i saw em. And he does a wonderful job with Santana. But Extraction sounds like your run of the mill fusion album to me, I liked VTT because it sounded different and had a rock trio sort of sound to it. Extraction just sounded like some Berklee ensemble. And VTT didn't run "Fusion Changes" ever 2 choruses, with real long chord motions and gigantic synth patches. I much prefer something a little more original sounding. It could be just Greg Howe's arrangements.

I've always dug Terry Bozzio and the great Billy Cobham (for my money, none better).

I dig Simon Phillips' stuff, especially with Jeff Beck and Bill Bruford.

I'm a huge Primus fan, so I dig Herb as well.

As far as combos - Les Claypool and Terry Bozzio.
