What about the victims!!!

Yep, this is small rant about the lastest shooting. Nothing unusual about that, it's happened a couple of times here in NZ. But what is really bugging me is that the gunman is getting the all the attention and the victims get zip.

I don't give a **** about the gunman, who he is, or what his problem is.

I want the know about the people he killed, who they are, what they do, and who they left behind.

There's a worrying trend happening here - media people.

Usually when there has been a killing, it takes while before victim's names are released because they must be formally identified and next of kin must be notified.

The other thing to remember is that the victims are almost always "normal" people who did nothing to earn a violent death. The killer, who is abberrant, always get the attention because it is human nature to want want to know "why.":confused:

But I don't need to know his name, or what he looks like. It only adds to his "5 minutes of fame"

Maybe the families of the victims are wanting to be able to mourn in peace without being a public/media spectacle?

Maybe they are having enough problems right now, other than wanting to deal with the hassle of reporters looking into the history or the people they loved?

Maybe they arent wanting to give interviews when their world has just been torn apart?

Maybe media and society are more worried about the scandal of an incident as opposed to the incident itself?

Plus . . .

I can hardly imagine what it would be like to be in a situation where someone close died in such a manner. However, I sure as hell wouldnt be willing to give the media anything, profiteering off the death of someone that was close to me? Why the hell would I care if average Joe Public was interested, what is it to do with them?

Try and imagine yourself in the shoes of the family and friends of those people, im pretty sure the last thing most of them would want is media attention.

I'm only thinking of the victims.

All in good time. I still want to know who they are.

Wouldn't it be great if instead of this never-ending long distant psycho babble analyzation of the butcher who selfishly ended the lives of others to get on good mourning America the lives of the victims and perhaps there friends and family were profiled?:hmm:

We all care about the victims, not the killer, but don't blame this on the media. The families have to be notified first before the names are released. So this is being done out of consideration for them.
