Funny how they are tied to events:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold and Platinum - first rock album- on 8-track !

Journey - Escape - Got laid - shows my age!

Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet - lot's of parties

Any thing by Led Zeppelin - a girl I dated for a while who had hair down to her ankles

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon experiments with weed

Cinderella - Long Cold Winter - first divorce, and it wasn't a long cold winter after all!

Marty Freidman - Scenes - met my current wife

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime - my life since !

Only a few had that affect on me:

Yes - Relayer
Black Market - Weather Report
Romantic Warrior - Chick Corea
Blow by Blow - Jeff Beck
Jaco - Jaco!

Of course, that was back in the late 70's/early 80's when that music was new, fresh, and more relevant than it is today.

More recently:

James Taylor Live... I've never heard ensemble playing like that in the pop music genre, and Jimmy Johnson's playing and tone are literally perfect.... there's not one note I would change... and Carlos Vega and Jimmy are just locked.

Beatles-Meet The Beatles: !!!!!!!! what is this? I was 9 when I saw them debut on Ed Sullivan's show

Cream-Wheels of Fire: when I heard Jack Bruce, I decided to play bass

Zappa/Mothers-Absolutely Free: so there's more to music than what I hear on top 40 radio? Led me into jazz and classical music

King Crimson-In the Court Of The Crimson King: well it sure didn't sound like the Monkees

Mahavishnu Orchestra-The Inner Mounting Flame: it was loud and frantic like rock but led me further into jazz

Steeleye Span-Please To See The King: I first meet Ashley Hutchings and learn that there's more to folk-rock than the Mamas and Papas

Richard Thompson-Live (More or Less): Richard takes folk-rock into another dimension

John Martyn-Grace and Danger: folk meets jazz fusion meets blue-eyed soul

Lucinda Williams-Lucinda Williams: it's the song, stupid...USA division

Nick Drake-Bryter Later: it's the song, stupid...UK division

Captain Beefheart-Trout Mask Replica: Rockette Morton takes off again into the wind

Styx - Grand Illusion (made me want to be a musician, I was 7)

Metallica - ...and Justice For All (had my "first time" while listening to this)

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime (it's still in regular rotation in my truck)

Siouxsie and The Banshees - Peepshow (I was in love with Siouxsie for a long time, and I still can't get enough of the song "Killing Jar")

Dream Theater - Images and Words (I was speechless for days after I heard it)

Matchbox 20 - Yourself or Someone Like You (reminded me that pop music can be good)

the few that i can think of: -

iron maiden: live after death - the beginning of my music obsession)
heart: bad animals - cheezy, but it was my transition from playing classical to playing pop and rock. plus there were chicks in the band. little girls like to see that.
rush: chronicles - began my obsession with Rush
stereolab: oscillons from the anti-sun - this album called me by name in the record store, even tho' i had not heard a single track.
carpenters: singles - that voice!
julieta venegas: limon y sal - totally restored my faith in pop and quality songwriting.
