What amp should i get for small gigs?

Tough situation. I'll just echo what's been said already, used 8x10 or 2x15, or a high-quality 4x10 such as an SWR Goliath. Add any head with 300-500 watts, such as a Bl 600 or 800RB, done.
Any less and you will struggle to be heard, when playing loud rock music. And don't make the mistake of trying to feed 500+ watts into a small cab, like a 1x15 or a 2x10, because you'll just blow it up. More speakers is always better than more watts. Good luck.

An update, as of today, so all can see I'm not full of K'Ka (that's Klingon for poop BTW :) ). The amp is on its way. UPS guesstimates Dec 21 for delivery. They seem to have wrapped it up pretty well, paying particular attention to the front panel, so it should arrive safely I think. I'll PM you with the tracking number tomorrow.

now to the cost part: I will pay the shipping but the deal is that, as soon as you can, you make a donation of $50 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Having had a pair of each I need all the help I can get!!! i'll never know if you actually do this but YOU will know and I feel you are a righteous young guy so I have no doubts. :)

Funny story about the shipping. when UPS quoted me the shipping i nearly lost my breath. I paid the cost as I had promised Taz the amp and I would hate to disappoint him.

Just as I was placing the above post, the UPS store called and told me they had got the shipping wrong. I had overpaid by almost double!!! I can breathe a little easier now!!! :)

I still haven't found a cab. Looking, but seemingly without luck... oh well.

You two guys are great! This is what TB is all about, bass family. And I'll bet that BP is even an old fart like me (well, maybe not quite that old)....

Taz, just remember that us old guys were 15 once (i know, hard to believe but its true). I wish that when I was starting out at 13, that I had TBers to help. I didnt know jack and had nowhere to turn for advice.

Surprisingly, I found the GC Acoustic B200 to be all you require:
1) COMBO
2 ) LOUD: 200 Watts@2 ohms: 1x15 and tweeter if needed. DI to PA/ Mixer for more volume if needed.
3) Tone: Gain/Volume, Contour and 6 band semi parametric. Make it sound any way YOU want.
4) Handles a low B with no farting, even at loud performance volumes, which is why I chose this among others that failed this test; all others in that size and catagory FAILED the B String fart test.
5) More affordable @ less than $350 new from GC. Cover and casters extra.
6) If you are either much younger than I or stronger; It's relatively light; under 50 pounds. I am 59 with Bass Players bad lower back and can handle with 1 arm; I prefer my casters and both arms to lift.
7) 3 year warranty. Usually GC will swap it out for new one on the spot if you have issues. I have had none, but I have had friends who have bought B450 and were glad they bought one.

Now you got the Peavy from a generous Tber :) You should be able to find a good used 410 cab for $400. I remember starting at age 13y and playing through a silver tone guitar amp. I would not say it sounded good but it worked at the time. Good Luck Awesome thread to read.
