What amp should i get for small gigs?

The new Carvin, Micro MB500 1x15 combo.
I must say I've never been into Carvin amps.
Played one of these, great buy for the money.
250 watts, nice tone, light weight, $349.00. and loud.
You can get a second 1x15 extension cab for bigger gigs.

Listen to JimmyM. To be perfectly honest, you are probably not going to find a new amp fpr under $400 that will cut it in a metal band. Prepare to be underwhelmed.

If I was in your position, I would get a head of at least 200 watts and a 115 or 410 cab. This will give you something to play through in the time being, and you can save up and add a second matching cab later, which will bring that rig to its full potential.

Alright, so I messaged the bassist of a sorta local metal band (they're in Alberta, I'm in Saskatchewan) and he said he's selling an "old old old ashdown 810 cabinet. i bought it off of Lionheart (San Fransisco hardcore band) about 2 years ago and its done me quite well. i was thinking of refinishing it this winter (stain and new coasters).
$300 as is. $450 refinished." [Please not that I am a farm kid, as previously stated, and I know how to refinish stuff. I'd be buying it in its current condition]

Now, the only problems there are 1) it would probably be a hundred dollars in shipping, and 2) I'd still need a head-- but for now I can borrow one whenever needed. when i decide to buy one, I'm going to go all-out and pick up a Marshall. I love Marshall tone. Love it. I love Marshalls.

Your thoughts?

My other offer from a local guy was $400 for his Ampeg 4x10, but this seems like a better deal.

I own a MB112 and it's worked just fine that way and I couldn't be happier with it's sound and features. I have a Mb112 as well and it works great for small clubs/bars. You could also maybe get a used GK MB210....

William, I've been over Kijiji a million times. Someone has an Ampeg rig for $1,200, but that's basically the only thing I'd be interested in, and it's too much moooooneys.

Throughthefire, I saw a sixty... four, I think? On eBay in British Colombia for $300. Its body was falling apart and every piece of metal on it was red with rust. Haha, a bit much.

Once that amp arrives, thank you again, I'll check out *shudder* pawn shops for cabs. You never know what not-crap is hidden inside all the crap there!

Problem:Combo needed for small to medium gigs, with plenty of volume and handles low B-String at an affordable price

Solution: I use Acoustic B200. 6 bands of semi-parametric, midsweep- contour. Old School is easy; plenty of bottom; handles low B-string? No problem. Hi- Fi? Turn on the tweeter. Also has pre-amp out to PA with it's own independent volume control. I don't use the effects loop offered. Great for practice, low and mid volume gigs.

Louder? Use pre-amp-out to PA: Problem solved.

-Need more power? Acoustic 450 combo. More watts; same tone bank as B200, with 2x10's. After that it's separates:200H and 600H with choice of cabs.

I have a GK Backline 112. It is a kick back. Great amp. 100w. Great features. I never use it any more. We went through a phase of acoustic practices, so this was my way of going acoustic! It rocks for a little guy. I think I still have it posted in the For Sale section too! SWR Strawberry Blonde's are great little amps too. Find them used for under $300!

I was gonna chime in and suggest at least a medium to large cab from my experience. Glad it's working out! (Nice one Paul!) An 810 and SVT barely kept up in one band I was in. All I can say is have fun and earplugs are your friend! I'm just about 23 by the way. ;)
