What amp under $1000 dollars goes GRRRR?

Hey, I'm looking at getting a new amp because my band is getting gigs and a 25w practice amp just dosen't hold up.
I'm thinking a 1x15 stack or combo 100w+. As the title suggests I want a massive low end that goes GRRRR. But i'm not really sure what brand or type to get. Hybrid, solid state or tubes?
I'm thinking maybe acoustic(awesome deal At musicians friend but I am in australia so an extra $350 for postage )
Any Ideas? Thanks in advance!

1000 is alot to play with. i would suggest a Hartke LH500, and an Avatar 4x10

The HA2500 is great value for money... paired with a 2x10 or a 4x10 depending on how loud you need to be I guess. Waaaay less than a grand as well.

check the used market.. i got my GK1001RBII and 2 GK 410 RBX cabs for $900

thats alota bang for my buck

at the time i bought that there was also a 300 some watt harke (not sure which one) with a 410 and a 215 cab going for 800 bucks

What kinds of amps do you see a lot of on the used market in AU?

Every region and country is different. My 2 cents is to favor a 500 watt(or higher) head with a a 410 or a 215 cab ( favored), the make and price is your business.

Get yourself a GK amp 700rb 800rb 1000rb depending on your budget. You can also get their backline amps which are even more cost effective. There are tons of threads on the forum about them. You can dial in all the growl you want with any of their amps. There are tons of good deals on cabinets. Find ones you like, and go for it.

TRACE ELLIOT Pro Bass Rig 300 watt head + 2 cab stack | eBay might still be for sale, otherwise something similar. For 1000 Aussie I'd venture used is the only way to get a serious rig.

Whatever you do, don't skimp on the spkrs. You want "massive" low end, you'll need massive power, and capable spkrs to handle that power.

My feelings on this are save a little more coin and get something with enough power that you will never have to worry about power issues. For example, Ampeg svt-2 pro 300w all tube is a monster that will pretty much in all situations be more power than you will ever need. Pairing it with a cab for budget is easy. Start with a 4x10. Then you can add or change cabs down the road example 2x4x10 or 8x10. Also as hard as it may seem don't be hasty in your purchase. I have in the past had the proverbial burning money in the pocket feeling buying gear. Take your time and do your homework. If at all possible play the gear before you buy it. Check for used gear, a great way to get top of the line and budget prices.

Drop $1000 on me and I can set up a NICE rig, right now.

Of course, it'd all be used gear... But here's a fine example: Until recently, I had an Aguilar GS212. Plug my old GK400RB into that and it sounded FREAKIN GREAT. Big rock & roll sound, no doubt. I sold the cab for what - $400... The head can be had for $200.

Get an old SWR 4x10 instead for the same OR LESS.
Want more head? GK800Rbs are out there for fairly cheap. SWR 400's / SWR 350s...

The trick here is to buy gear that is NOT the flavor-of-the-month. There's a ton of used, gig-proven gear out there that is GREAT but folks sell because they see an ad and want the latest / greatest.

$1000 is a freakin' fortune for used gear buyer.

Nope, it's because the Aus distribution chain is composed of robbers after thieves.
If you can get 10% off MAP you're doing well. And the MAP is way higher from the getgo.

in oz and we buy in us dollars, it is actually cheaper for us that you guys in the USA at the minute our dollar is better that the USA dollar.
Which is why I have sold alot locally and brought online.

If you're buying a head and cabs (i.e. bulky gear), try using one of those re-delivery services (like MyUS.com, but there are plenty of them) to get the best deal from CONUS only retailers and reasonable international shipping rates. Lots of places will ship to Aus/NZ now, but the rates are prohibitive, and you tend not to get the best available prices.
