I have an Avatar B212 NEO. No amp though. How would an Ashdown MAG 300 sound with that cab? Looking to play small clubs type thing. With the 300, is there a little room to grow if I'd like to go bigger? 4 ohm cab. Thanks.

I'd reccomend sticking away from the Ashdown MAG 300. Bassist in my old band used to play it and I never liked it. Didn't sound any better than my Crate combo and wasn't all that much louder. Also, you're going to pretty much be putting all the power into the one cab... that Ashdown will work, yeah. It'll do small clubs and everything, but you'll need to replace it if you want to upgrade again.
Something like the Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II will both pump more power into that Avatar (assuming its 8 ohms) initially and, if you get a second cab (another 8 ohms), it will also be able to power that and create a rig of doom! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

Anyways... yeah, the GK (and similar heads) are more expensive, but it's cheaper in the long run as you won't have to buy another head as well as a cab when you want to upgrade... just another cab. If you like the tone and don't plan on upgrading for several years, yeah, the MAG 300 would work just fine.

You have a 4 ohm cab that you like? If so, shop for an amp that will do 2 ohms, so you can add another 4 ohm cab later, if you want. Otherwise, with an amp that will only go to 4 ohms, you're stuck with that one cab, forever.
It depends what kind of music you plan on playing or sound you are looking for...Do NOT get the MAG 300. Trust me, not worth it. The transformer went in my MAG Combo just 3 months after I had it and did not get it back until almost 4 weeks later, due to warranty.

So, with a 4 ohm cab, I need to go 2 ohm to expand or 4 ohm to only run the one cab? Who makes a good and affordable 2 ohm amp?
I don't think there's such a thing as an affordable 2 ohm amp...

Most Peaveys after the Mark III will handle 2 ohms, no prob... for the money, a Mark VI or a T-Max if you can find one will do a great job for you...

Is this amp ok for 2 and 4 ohm? GK700-RBII. Are there amps that are switchable and if so, is there any kind of advantage to that?
The GK700RBII is a great head.... it's probably the best value out there. You can pick it up from RMC Audio for like 520.00 shipped..... and the thing sounds incredible. Unfortunately for you, it will not do a 2ohm load. You could get it anyway, but you'd be stuck with only using the single Avatar cab.
If I were you I'd actually look at the GK400RB from RMC. It'll ship for about 100 bucks less, and you could use the extra dough you save towards a 112 8ohm cab from Avatar. Then you've got a 112 for small stuff, and the 212 for bigger stuff. And that 400RB is a great head.... the 280watts (into 4ohms) is a highly conservative rating.
