What Ampeg cabinet is John Taylor using on Austin City Limits?

I really didn't want to ask but I searched the internet and people were saying in other threads that it was a 410 or a 810 or referred to as using a fridge, but when I hear the term fridge I think of a Ampeg 810 but when you really look at the Ampeg cabinet on Austin City Limits show it is not a 410 or a 810, I'm guessing it's a 412, did Ampeg make a 415 cabinet? Anyways when you look at the cabinet it's really wide & kind of pudgy but it is not a 810 for sure, so will the Ampeg experts please confirm what cabinet is being used, Thanks.
Oh one more thing it is not a 610 cabinet either.

I fast forwarded through the video and did not see a good shot of the bass rig. He's standing way out in the middle of the stage and does not really seem to be too focused on the back line. I would not be surprised if what we hear is straight off a DI, and the amp has no impact.


IMHO it looks like an Ampeg 610 to me.

If it's not a 610 it's an 810.

Pretty sure John is a Trace Elliot guy, so I doubt this is his rig. It was probably part of a provided backline.

Well, way way back Ampeg made an oversized 4x12, much taller than usual. And I do mean way way back…

Just another rip-off of Tennessee Whiskey. But I can’t see Taylor being much of a vintage gear person, so who knows? I saw that last night, Taylor was killing it. I always took DD with a grain of salt, some of the early stuff was guilty pleasure for me, but that sound mix was great. I’m sure their appearance on ACL must have pissed off some people.

When I bought my SVT in '72-73, I got it from a guitar player. It came with
2 4x12 cabs loaded with Altecs. Might have been a B412? Sounded pretty
good, though I eventually swapped 1 cab for an 8x10.

IMHO it looks like an Ampeg 610 to me.

That cab looks the same proportions as the 610hlf at my rehearsal studios so I'm betting a 610 of some sort.

I say it's a 6-10"cab. I did a search for images and it appears that some of the older models may not have had the handle.

It's a 610 really clear in @Wasnex screen shots.
The 412 was a V4 cabinet. It was shorter and wider (almost square).

I caught the PBS Austin City Limits w/Duran Duran last night. IMO, I like them better, as a group, now, than when they were popular in the 80's. The camera work was all over John Taylor. And with good reason.

Yeah, I'm sure it's just whatever backline was acceptable to him for an onstage monitor. Has nothing to do with his FOH sound, it's not mic'd.

Definitely. That was the best recording of a Dingwall I've ever heard too and it sounded fantastic. Great punch and tone. I was definitely impressed, with both instrument AND player.

Did some overlays with images from Ampeg's website and a screenshot. From the proportions it looks more like a 810.
