What Are These Sounds? Non-Bass Content!

Ok, two weird ones for you.

1) What is this sound in Metallica's Shortest Straw? It occurs at 2:21 and it sounds like air due to the bass drum fill, but I am curious if anyone really knows?



2) The second one is in ZZ Top's Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers. It is the sound that is keeping time...and sounds like a clock ticking? Just curious about both of these!!

On the ZZ Top tune, they might have been a trio live, but there’s all sorts of overdubbed guitar parts. There’s a main “rhythm” guitar, chunking away full crunch chords. But on top of that, what I hear as that click is a single note riff guitar part on top of, and in tandem with, that first guitar, and the bass. Strictly rhythmic content. Any leads, solos, etc. is yet another guitar track.

In "The Shortest Straw", I hear a lack of bass (except for Lars' bass drum). Someone had to say it.

In "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers", I hear a clock ticking on the far right, which is helping them keep time. Very meta and very literal! I also hear Dusty Hill and Billy GIbbons trading lead vocals.
