What are you strung up with?

I've recently been using DR Black Beauties. I find them to be a nice blend between coated and non-coated strings. I could however do without the colors. The black color is the one I've found the most acceptable.

Sadowsky flatwounds on my L2500 Tribute. Wow! The sound is clear and the growl is present. The bass is still fat, the brightness is tamed, and the mids shine through. With rounds the sound seemed scooped but now that scooped spectrum has flattened out a bit. I'll post some soundclips soon.

These strings are perfect for me because I love a vintage tone which I get with these strings in passive. If I need a brighter tone I can always switch into active or active with treble boost.

Now I want to learn how to play with a pick - you gotta love the attack with a pick but the solid fundamentals of the flats.

I just tried the XL's (130-B)on my L2500. I screwed up and got the long scale, so I had to string the B over the bridge. Had to use em though, bought em late and was heading to a gig but even then they still sound great on the L25K. I have some EB Slinkys on a SR5 I just sold this week. I felt the GL with D'Ad's had a better B than the ray with Slinkys.
Got a used 55-02D coming this week, woohoo! I plan to try the XL's on it too, unless I can get suggestions as to what strings go well on the 55-02 for disco/funk/soul style music??

I'm using Daddario Slow Wounds on my L2000. I love the tone and feel. Unfortunately, I only have ewo more sets. After those are gone, I'll have to try something else! I'll probably try the SIT originals first or nickleplated Fenders- I like those on my P-bass.

TI Jazz Flats on the L-2000e, L-1000, SB-2, JB-2. They're my favorite strings; they last almost forever, the low tension makes 'em feel great, and they sound good to me. Love that thick old-school tone.

I've got a couple G&Ls strung with TI Superalloys (L-2500 FL & L-2000). Great for slap or rock; nice growly mwaah on the fretless.

And, SITs on an L-2500 fretted. Original strings -- always liked the sound too much to take them off. :)

my other basses (RIC, Fenders, etc) have a mix of stuff...these don't get as much gig rotation as the G&Ls.

I just put the DA superlong nickel set (45-130) on my L-2500 last night after having used regular Slinkies for the past 6 months. The two brnads of strings seem noticeably different, even though they're the same gauges across the set.

The Slinkies are brighter and have more growl on the low strings. The B string is more defined than the DA B. But I think the DA strings sound deeper and have less finger noise.

A few gigs will tell which I'll prefer, but I definitely want rounds on this bass for better cut in crummy acoustics, which seems to be the norm.

(assuming you mean an L-2500 'cuz that's the only thru body G&L bass I know of)

I didn't try thru body on my L-2500 with Superalloys. If you have a 3+2 headstock, the longest run would be to the A peg.

FWIW, I did have a set of D'addario Chromes and some Elixirs on my L-2500 FL at one time while I was experimenting with strings...and I did try thru-body on the Chromes -- I really couldn't tell that thru body made a noticeable difference...
