i recently tried a few different strings...but decided to go back to my 8 YEAR OLD DR Sunbeams for my L'1000 fretless. they sound infinitely better than the new set of sunbeams i recently purchased. warm, yet still bright with great harmonics, and a smooth (but not slippery) feel. new sunbeams have the typical too bright, metallic quality, but with an overactive (and noisy) harmonic response that's a bit much for my taste and technique. i replaced the G string with a spare Sunbeam that is also 8 years old, but hadn't been played, and it matches up pretty well. maybe new Sunbeams are somewhat different than they were 8 years ago? Dunlop nickels are also pretty good--not as dynamic as Sunbeams...yet they are actually smoother feeling (to my hands.)
