This. Which is why I basically carry what amounts to a full PA for just bass.

At one small festival gig, I had a soundman thank me for "bringin' it" because he could back out the bass in a PA that was only moderately sized for the space and push the vocals, keys and guitars and bring up some kick. When I was in his PA I was taxing the subs it and it sounded terrible. And he commented 'that was the loudest I've been able to push that PA all day long and the best it's sounded'

I learned early on that if you actually like bass, you need a LOT more of what you normally use inside.

We use our own pa. We use it just for vocals and the acoustic guitars. We play bars with no FOH, and it's not a problem. The gig is a private club that we are friends of. They don't normally have bands and have no stage. It's just a fun place to play a couple times a year.

Then the volume limit will be wherever you don't drown out the vocals or lower pitched drums.

Selling the budget 410 to get a quality 210 to add to your Peavey should do it. The 115 you mentioned will work too if it can take about as much power before farting out as your 210 does.

That's about the limit until you start micing the kickdrum..

Once upon a time, that was what the 'fridge was for.

Now, it's what the second 212 is for.

In any case, it's more about speaker area than raw wattage.

OP: Food for thought.

1) If a PA is really large enough to support drums, then its also large enough to support bass too.

2) No PA support means acoustic drum volume level, so a huge bass rig would just be overkill and need to be turned down so it didn't burry the drums.

Yup.

Simple as that.

Use a 1x15 indoors;

a 2x15 outdoors (w/o FOH support).

This formula has worked for me. That said, our band plays @ low-to-moderate level volume.

For the past year my big cab setup is a Greenboy f112 on top of an F115

For a little over a month I e been running an F212. Haven't gigged it outdoors yet, but will in the coming months

I have an 18" front loaded sub I use for my PA that I power with a Crown xls1000, 700 watts bridged I believe. I can loop it through the fx loop on my Shuttle and send the high pass side of the signal back to the head, which powers a Genz NeoX212T. The sub is the cheapest one Peavey makes, but I replaced the driver with an Eminence that's rated for 1000 watts rms. It thumps.

Ive done outdoor gigs with three half stack guitarists, and a heavy handed drummer, with just 350 watts and a 410. volume never went past 9 o clock.

With a 4x10 and 2x10 together, are you sure it wasn't just the 2x10 farting out as those drivers were getting twice the power of the drivers in the 4x10 (unless I missed something)?

Probably would have been ok with just the 4x10 in that case.

Indoors or out, I've been using this. Fearful 15/6 and an Orange Terror Bass.

If I needed to be louder than this, I'd probably need to go PA.
