What are your thoughts on American Cheese ?

its ok on burgers, although i prefer cheddar on all occasions.

the only thing i prefer america cheese on sometimes is a turkey sandwich or a roast ebef sandwich, although swiss usually wins the bettle in both cases.

1) The only cheese option you should consider on a Philly Cheesesteak.

2) It's American Cheese spread you can buy from the supermarket in a jar (the sandwich shops get it in large industrial food service cans, naturally).

American Cheese is not real cheese IMO. Just processed crap cheese that us Americans gladly accept.

Gotta echo Sonic here. Melted is better, otherwise, just like alot of real America: over processed and fake ( think boob and nosejobs...no hatin here...)

When you say 'American Cheese' do you mean that stuff that is square and a scary shade of yellow, and comes as individual slices wrapped in clear plastic?

Because I always thought that was the same stuff you put under carpets to help insulate your house.

A good strong English cheddar is that way forward.

If it's anything like the orange muck you see in McDonald's burgers I don't think it is actually cheese.

By itself, American cheese is horrible. On a burger or a sandwich, I don't mind, as long as it's not the nasty Kraft singles. I never bother buying it, though, because cheese is something that I usually snack on by itself, and I can't do that with American.

American Cheese? One nation, with over 300 million people living there, and there's ONE type of cheese?

Here in Sweden, which is not really the homeland of cheese, I'll easily find 10 types of cheese in the 7-11 on the corner. The supermarket where I shop most often carries well over 100 kinds of cheese. Haloumi and Feta from Greece, Parmesan, Mascarpone and Mozzarella from Italy, any number of French cheese in varying state of decay, a bunch of Danish and Norwegian, and then of course some 50 types of Swedish cheese. Then again, Sweden is (according to WikiPedia) the number 8 country in the world for cheese consumption per capita.

I love the stuff and in all forms...the standard, the wonderful powdered vairity that comes with mac-n-cheese,and cheeze whiz. Guess being raised by a single dad and growing up on grilled cheese and spaghetti O's really shapes your tastes huh?

Yep. That's what market economy is supposed to bring, isn't it? Then again, what do I know? We have public health care, so we're a socialist country, right?

I'm a total cheese snob. I buy gouda, brie, Muenster, havarti, Feta, any number of Dutch cheses... etc. I never mess with American cheese or singles or any of that stuff. Just can't stomach it. I really am a snob about it. I eat cheese for snacks, sometimes an entire meal will be a sampling of five or six cheeses (I eat six or seven very small meals a day, btw). It isn't uncommon for the bulk of my grocery bill to be cheese.
The strange thing is; my other food is stuff like fish sticks and deli meat and soup. I'ma pretty cheap eater. But I'll spend $50-$60 on nothing but cheese in one shopping trip. I figure life is short...I like good cheese.

I tried this for the first time a few nights ago. It is unbelievable! By far the best cheese I have ever tasted in my life. I ended up buying an entire brick of it. I've been snacking on it non-stop. I had a piece for dinner last night with an apple. For breakfast this morning I had another piece with some raisins and a piece of beef. It is incredible.
