What are your thoughts on this bass? (Jackson Content)

Hm...I'm surprised amimbari hasn't gotten in on this thread. He's an expert when it comes to Jackson/Charvel...You'll be hearing from him real soon, I'm sure of it :D

It's a Jackson CMG Concert bass.

I played one just like this today at my local guitar shop and it played and sounded great. The owner is trying to move some stuff quickly and offered it to me for $600.00.

The finish is green, which I like better. I'm not familiar with these basses or Jackson basses for that matter, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
HOW DID I MISS THIS THREAD RUSH-2112?--- :D anyway.....

600 brand new is about 100 less than a lot of places charge...but you can find them cheaper used, including the older Concert EX or LX with the preamp in them which is the same basic thing....

yes EMG-HZ are passive with a preamp in the cavity, they are NOT NOT NOT the same tone as EMG 35's.

would I buy one tomorrow IF I had the cash? YES ESPECIALLY IN GREEN--
I was gonna buy this one not too long ago---------

BUT I already have enough Charvel/Jackson "P/J" looking basses in my Family: all the ones that ARE preamped are OEM passive pickups, except for the Black and maple, that one came with an EMG in it.

P/J to me means only ONE THING ++++

P = PointyHeadstock
J = Jackson

I'm not gonna turn this thread into a Jackson-vs-Fender thread, but I only will say this, if you like it...buy one, screw ANYONE who says they suck, change the neck, buy a Fender P....those are good basses, but they are NOT Jacksons and NEVER WILL BE Jacksons.

If you need a good clean bass to play jazz, soft rock, oldies, then by all means GO BUY A Fender P...If you think your gonna be a FLEA or Claypool wannabee slap-popfreak on the CMG---uh, no, go buy a Fender.....and don't be fooled form the 392 people saying the Fender P is the standard for rock....maybe to them it is!!!

I'll just bet that last statement will get this thread over 50 posts by the weekend ---

hey if you got a ****load of money you can have this one if your into Tbirds -----

That is THE exact bass that I am looking at buying. And yea, it does seem that Jackson doesn't get much respect in the bass world. I am not trying to start any crap, but I will say this, that Jackson I played was nicer than 3 of the MIA Jazzes that I have owned.

The only thing stopping me from buying this one so far is the mental image. I play bass in church, so i'm not sure this one would go over so well! lol!

no, C/J stuff has nothing to do with respect or not, but when you have 10,000 people with "insertyourbrandhere" basses, and 100 with Jacksons, naturally they are gonna tell you their tales of their basses. you WANT a Jackson, and not "insertbrandnamehere" bass, so I'm giving you my EXPERIENCE with them, not my opinion.

:bassist::bassist::bassist:
Well, i play in a church band with a pointy headed flying V bass, and its all chill., so dont rule it out.
But, i recommend, that you just go with what YOU, YOURSELF think. Dont get sucked into a Fender just because people here say its "THE Bass".

And, i have a Kramer Forum, so i know what pointy head stock hate is like. :smug::smug:
:p

Thanks.

I will also say this, this bass has been in the store for a while now, and i've never tried it because it had "Jackson" on the headstock. I was telling the store owner I was wanting something different from the "Fender" vibe i've been playing and he recommended a Warwick, which i've played and liked, but I told him I was kinda wanting to stick with a 4 string for now. I thought about going with that 5 string Warwick for a while and he was going to give me a great deal, but I am really digging playing my 4 string basses right now, and that Jackson sounded as good if not better than any other bass he had in there!

I guess we'll see. I'm gonna go play it again tomorrow!

kramer? well then you know the l.o.v.e :D ( or lack of )

Cool bass, don't listen to the others. If you like the basses sound and it plays well then offer them $550 right now. You would be surprised on how many places will deal if you ask. If not no big deal.

wow I think you summed up my thoughts in one sentence, where it took me a paragraph...

either way. yep you like it and the price you buy it, you don't you don't...

Thanks for all the advice guys. I am going to go spend some time with that bass tommorrow at the music store and see if the owner may take less. Who knows, I may be playing that bass on Sunday morning. I'll let you know what I decide.
