What are your thoughts on this bass? (Jackson Content)

It's a Jackson CMG Concert bass.

I played one just like this today at my local guitar shop and it played and sounded great. The owner is trying to move some stuff quickly and offered it to me for $600.00.

The finish is green, which I like better. I'm not familiar with these basses or Jackson basses for that matter, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

They are real EMGs....they're just passive. At least that's my understanding of it.

I think that the green finish on those CMGs looks awesome. I have a Charvel 3B that I prefer to the CMGs I've tried, but if you like it, why shouldn't you get it? And at a reasonable price, too. I mean--who else has one of those basses?

I just got this bass for christmas. It is active so it has a battery, and the controls are: master volume, blend, treble mid and bass. I love it, it sounds really really good and plays great. They retail for a grand and often sell for 700, i got mine for 500. Go for it, it sounds really good. Here is mine.

This ^^ is a rhetorical question. If you know what I'm talking about -and you do- why debate? Point is, let the OP know he can swap 'em for something better. They don't have to be EMGs. There are plenty of respectable pickup manuacturers whose products will fit that rout.

Good grief... They are not the active EMGs, and there's a reason we don't see as many people whose living depends on music using them as we do the active EMGs. I apologize for any hurt feelings I may have caused, (which had to have been the case, as there's no other good reason for you to have responded like this).

All Depends can now be changed, I hope, and we're ready to continue the thread...

Active EMG's have a certain 'sound' due to the low impedance winding and the internal preamp. Some consider them to be 'hifi' sounding, others consider them 'bright' and 'harsh'. HZ's do not have that signature active EMG sound. They are not internally active and cost less to make. Hence, some people consider them 'not real EMG's'. They are certainly not active EMG's, which are considered one of the top 3 or 4 big name pickups. They cost less to make, sound different, and cost less to purchase as well. A lot of mid priced instruments use them, so that they have a recognizable brand name on the pickups. Much like a lot of mid priced instruments using the Bartolini MK-1 pickup, which like EMG HZs are not considered 'real Barts'.

Thank you for the added clarification, Embellisher. I appreciate it. Probably should have said it myself, but did not expect the level of acidity that came from the simpler statement. It's not like I spoke harshly about a part of the instrument he could not upgrade.

I suspect, tho, that everyone in this thread (save maybe the OP) already knows the differences between EMG and EMG-HZ and some just wanted to argue. I'd have told the OP to switch out the MK-1s for (...dare I say it?) real Barts if the bass in question had come with those.

I played one at my local shop, and it had a set up and everything was good and all, but i found the E string to be extra buzzy...there might have been some minor flaw in the overall set up, but besides that i found it to be great.

Nothing to be upset about on this end- I don't own HZs. Sounds like you do, tho, whether you want to admit that here or not :D

Anyhoo, you posted two minutes after my explanation. Plenty time to read a post that was two posts before yours. You should have left well enough alone. Go now, and upgrade whatever it is that's keeping you replying to my posts insead of reading them (or not) and then going on about your business.
