Another example of playing lead guitar on bass.
I like it, but I don't think that it's an "example of playing lead guitar on bass." Instead, IMHO, it's a bass player using his bass as a solo instrument, which is not the same as playing a lead guitar solo.
I understand that there are numerous factors that influence the general viewpoint that the bass guitar is not a solo instrument, but I'm still waiting for a valid reason.
And anyhow, someone once asked me if I preferred playing guitar or bass. I made it clear that the answer was playing bass, after which the individual concerned continued: "So you don't miss playing solos then?" I immediately replied that I didn't and, after a short pause said, "Why would I miss that? When you're playing bass, you can [but not always] play solos all night."
Okay, it's an exaggeration but, as a bass player, you will know that, there are numerous opportunities during a set when you can get up to all sorts of melodic (or non melodic) fret work. Admittedly, this quite often goes unnoticed by the majority (including some fellow band members), which is a shame because it constitutes comprehensive coverage of your fretboard, nifty fretwork included (supported, of course, by the adept skills of your other hand), and is fully justified within the context of the track's performance (because a competent bass player intuitively knows when this is appropriate and vice versa).
