What are your top choice strings for Ibanez SR Basses

I like the Elixirs, the Black Beauties felt weird on my fingers . I will probably try uncoated strings next. Maybe steel vs. Nickel just to see the difference.

Black Beauties felt weird to my fingers too. Felt like trying to run through mud. I almost took them off but decided to apply generous amounts of GHS Fast Fret on them. Took about a month but they are pretty guick now.

Besides, they look good on the bass. IMO

They sound really good too.

Got the 45 - 100 Fender 9050 flat set installed on my 97 SR800...still plenty of sustain and brightness/zing ...the reverse P pickup now sounds very close to what i imagined with the 'piano tone' this bass has, still can get that 'bark' of a typical P bass but i dig the feel of these strings.

String action still fairly high, even though i have adjusted the truss rod and measured and slightly filed a few frets and re-dressed, the neck is very nice...the string balance seems fine as well..i know many want heavier sets than a 45 - 100 set....i will see how everything settles in....$23 shipped to my door, they took 3 days to arrive!

Fender 9050s are way underrated as an "all-purpose flatwound", if you ask me... A great value for the price. I'd take them over the D'A Chromes any day. I also think the 45-60-80-100 set is very nicely balanced both in tone and feel.

I have a 'well broken in' set on a Peavey Fury (P bass with J neck) and ive noticed i need a bit more finger pressure on the new SR800 set of 9050's.

"All purpose flatwound" is my view on 9050's as well.

I have the Thomastik JF344 now on the SR2600... discussed here in the thread and have to say the sound is much more harmonic. Far less "metalic", more "wooden" without loosing the characteristic of a jass bass sound.

The factory strings, possibly D'Addario EXL165 were definitively not a good match. Also they were not fresh when I got the instrument and after two months of intense playing they were finally worn out...
