What bass guitar do you recomment for slapping??

I'm between Jazz and Stingray. I like the tone of a jazz better, but the pickup placement on the Stingray gives you a lot of room to get under the strings and you can slap further back on the instrument for a sharper tone.

I don't think that is a problem on a jazz either. Sure, you loose about an inch of easy popping area with the J neck pickup, but then again you gain as much near the bridge as the MM pickup is wider. I often slap my J just next to the bridge and between the pickups. Right next to the bridge is particularly nice, it doesn't sound like traditional slapping but gets that nice piano like tone.

Anyways, you simply cannot go wrong with either. With jazz you can get that funky, old-school twang from the neck pickup, but ray gives you those ringing highs. I'd personally buy a jazz, pop in a J-retro with active passive switch and enjoy the traditional and brighter, modern slap tones..
