What bass is this....

If I remember right, its a percision that he had cut down into a tear drop shape. There are a few pictures of him playing it on the old tour books from the 70's, and it was listed in his gear section.

Almost certainly a custom one-off, and kind of a hack job at that. It's got a P bass body with both horns cut off, and a Jazz neck (no, on second look I was mistaken about the J neck) with some of the headstock cut down, and a Ric guitar pickguard/controls.

Lots of people did that sick "watermelon seed" chop job on their Fenders in the '70s.

It looks cool, it I ever get the chance, I might think about doing that.

It looks like a Vox Teardrop bass. Bill Wymann used one when he was with the Stones. I didn't get a really good look at the headstock though, but I still think it's Vox. Also, it looked like it might be a solid body. I've only ever seen hollow body version, but then, Geddy's Geddy:cool:

Link Removed the bass was a complete chop job. The headstock looks like a duck's foot or something.

The bass has a light blue finish (respray?), an odd bunch of controls and the original split pickup. I think I read it was an attempt at stereo, with each pickup (for 2 strings) connected to a different jack (and presumably volume and tone).
