I have a Gibson Thunderbird , an epiphone rock bass (jazz bass copy) and a mim precision , I am thinking about getting a MIA standard fretless jazz, I recently defretted my rock bass to see if I liked fretless basses , and I loved it I think I'm should get a MIA std , could I get one used for $1000 or less or would I ve better getting new , I'm not into 5 string basses or any modern design I guess (ibanez , yamaha , carvin) i mainly like fender and Gibson , I was thinking about either the jazz or a Gibson ripper and maybe have it professionly defretted , what do you guys think :bassist:i

The Jazz. The Ripper's a cool bass to have for some variety, but the Jazz is an all around better sounding bass IMHO. Plus other musicians you might work with would be less likely to bust your balls about using a fretless if it's a Jazz. Unfair, I know, but true. Also, don't tear up a vintage Ripper...you'll cut its resale value in half. Unless you're in Devo:
