what body shape?!

so yeah, I'm building my bass body out of oak, and the neck will be maple with a rosewood fretboard, but what shape should the body be? It's gotta be simple because this is my first time, but still appealing. Also, I'm probably going to paint something unique on it, but i don't know that yet either, any suggestions?

edit: I also need dimensions

Shoot me a PM and tell me what you are looking for and I'll design a shape for you.

thanks a lot Scott in Dallas!

I don't understand what kind of answers you're expecting from the shape thing. Round? square? oblong? post some designs and people will opine.

well, it's kind of an open ended question, but I was thinking like a boomerang-shape, although I'm open to anything.

Hi.

Fender made a thunderbird-shape?

A feller with the name John Entwistle did some and had several made for him ;)

As pilotjones correctly knew.

kinda, except it's vertical, built with a really wide slope, with just enough room for the pickup and bridge and, I think it's gona fail, but I'll keep explaining, and one end is like a cutaway, and the other is kind of a contour for the body, I'll give a rough sketch when I have time.

+100. Even better, an original design is IMHO the best one. And since it's a bolt on design, You can always make the next one if there's problenms with the previous one.

BTW, glad You decided to use oak after all, despite all the can'ts and don'ts :bassist:

/\ are you promoting my uniquenesness?

Ps. I'm lmost done the sketch, I should have it tomorrow, I just had bass lessons and finishing a diagram for my new 110 cab/head case I'm building.

edit: you're telling me john entwistle did something and I didn't know it? man, i feel depressed now :(

exactly like that! Man, it's not original after all :crying: , Oh well, it's still pretty unheard of and therefore unique compared to most other designs.

Have no fear! I just threw that together on my CAD in about 15 minutes. I've never seen anything like it, so it's still all you, brother! lol

I can send you the dimensions from the drawing, if you like... :D

if you would that would be sweet! but I don't have CAD

how are you gunna sit and play that? and where will the controls go?

controls go wherever I put them, and I usually stand when I play anyway.

I thought the controls would go in their usual area, under the bridge and pickups, and the output jack could be behind the bridge. As to sitting down, it seems like it would go very conveniently between your knees, and actually might put it in a better playing position than, say, a P-Bass. Plus the top edge functions as a sort of ramp. :smug:
