What brand of strings are these?

I have a box of old used strings. I was looking through the box to find a set of rounds to put on a bass. I found a set of strings with black silk on the end. These strings sound great. Anybody have any idea who manufactures these strings?

I have some yamaha strings that match your description... they came with a ERB070 bass pack similar to this one:

Though I've never seen them for sale separately.

Both ends of the strings are wound with black silk. The ball ends are plain brass.

There aren't too many rounds I can think of with black silk at BOTH ends. The previous version of the GHS Pressurewounds (up until maybe three years ago) did have black silk at both ends. They're actually "semi-rounds", meaning the outer wrap wire is "rollerwound" into an oval shape, resulting in a smoother surface texture than typical rounds.

So, here are my questions...
  • Do they feel smoother than typical rounds?
  • What's the exact measurement on the E string from the ball end to where the silk/taper starts at the tuner end? (As in "winding length")
  • Do all four strings have the same winding length (ball end to silk)?

Hmm...just yesterday I asked a question about probably the same strings (all features match) on my Cort, on the Silk Colors thread. Could it be that this Yamaha was built in Cort factory and they put the same strings on budget basses these days?

I'd really like to know because they do sound very good...I can do NMA - Stuart Morrow tone with almost no effort :)
