What brands for good low end sound ?

I just found out about WT-500 driving 410XLT and it is possible but it will affect the sound as it will be underpowered. Anyway, I've been thinking about the whole thing since I woke up and decided to get WT-500 and 8ohm D-410XLT. That way If I decide to expand the system (as far as the cabs go) with more speakers I will get rid of the head and get a pre-amp with power amp. It'll cost me less then investing $300 more now for a WT-800.

I don't have many choices now because I live in Little Rock and a lot of people havent even heard about Eden stuff so there is no place I can go and check either Demeter, Kern and such and in addtion don't need more then 500W for now so ....

I think this combination will be pretty much optimal dont you think so ?

Any comments anyone ?

Too bad that nobody wants to help me make a decision :(

It's not very easy to decide what do you want having that many options and trying to choose the most optimal setup that can be expanded and in addition costing about $1500.

Well, I pretty much decided to get WT-500 and D-410XLT and since I received no replies about my almost final decision I started thinking all over again ;)

I'm not sure If one cab will be enough so I'm thinking about WT-400 - D-210XLT and D-410XLT by the end of the year since we don't have the material ready just yet. I think that would be optimal and even If I decide to have more power later I'll still have 2 cabs left at 8ohm's each.

So, is there anyone who can help me decide ?
It would be great to get the stuff tomorrow or on Tusday, because I got some VERY nice prices on WT-400 and WT-500 and must decide within 48 hours.

Damien,

Don't vacillate anymore. Go for the WT-400 and the 4x10XLT (8 ohm). That should last you for a while, especially if you play a 4 string. I assume that you will be playing mostly at medium sized indoor venues. Even if you have the occasional outdoor gig, that is good enough to provide plenty of stage volume. The PA system (if you use a DI box) will take care of the rest. Later on, you can add a 1x15 cab (8 ohm). This combination will give you the full power of your 4 ohm amp (which although is rated at 400W is actually able to give you more than that).

If you play a 5 string now, I suggest that you go for the WT-400, a 2x10 cab (8 ohm) and a 1x15 cab (8 ohm) for a more responsive low end. Later on if you have more money and if you really need the extra volume, you can replace the 2x10 with a 4x10 cab.

Damian...good choice on the Eden....I play an Eden 410XLT but I run it with an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro head.....GREAT SOUND!!!...the head was a little more affordable than the Eden heads...and from Ive seen and been told a lot more road friendly....If youre giggin all the time you dont want your pretty, expensive head to go out because you hit a big bump in the road!!!!!!.....anyways thats my two cents.. hope it helps.....and enjoy your EDEN!!!

Hey,

Well, finally I made my decision and already placed an order !

I ordered WT-400 and D-210XLT ( should be here by the end of week ).

I haven't not ordered second cab yet, because I don't know If I'm gonna go with D-115, D-410 or D-118.


I hope I'm gonna have enough power for an "up to" big stage.
That's why I'm thinking about getting 410XLT. I could use a power amp If neccessary and use WT-400 as a preamp. Having 1100W in speakers is a good thing :)

We are not on the tour yet so that should do the trick.

I'm in the Bay area...getting ready to
sell a used Eden 2x10 XLT 8 ohm in good
working condition w/ foam case. I just
bought an Acme because it fits in my car's
trunk!

Be warned that these cab's are chunky, but
they really sound good and the dual ports
deliver the lows you are after.

Let me know if you're interested. I would
probably be looking to get $350 for the cab,
but might split shipping or something.

When you are evaluating cabinets and bass gear,
it's easy to forget the size factor. I know that
getting the sound you want is probably what is
most important, but when you are a weary soul at
2 a.m. and are starting to pack up your gear, I
have to "weigh" in here and say that the size/weight
of your gear can be a big deal. Bad pun. Sorry.

I would really think about whether lugging around
a 100 lb. 4x10 is something you are willing to
do. They produce a WALL of sound, but make sure
that you can't get what you need from a smaller
enclosure: 1x18, 1x15, or even another 2x10 before
you make that kind of commitment on behalf of your
back. Also make sure you have a truck, SUV, or
wagon!

Man, I'm a posting fool today. I also have the
SVT3 pro head by Ampeg. I like it, but I think
you made the right choice witht the Eden. I listened
to the Ampeg and Eden side-by-side at GC a couple of weeks
ago through an Eden 4x10. The Eden, IMHO, had a
cleaner, bassier tone. The Eden is a more modern
design and has less distortion. Plus there is something
to be said for getting your head and cab from the
same manufacturer as they often compliment each other
well.

As far as reliability, I haven't heard the Eden's
aren't road-worthy. The Ampeg is a beefy unit for
sure with a 5 year warranty (2 for Eden I think?),
but amps these days are pretty reliable across the
board, so I wouldn't let this point affect your choice
over the sound much.

Thanks CaptainWally. I am really not into buying used amps and especially cabinets, but thanks for the offer.

As far as the smaller enclosures: 1x18, 1x15 or even 2x10 ( in addition to my 2x10 ), I haven't yet decided which one I want. I have several more weeks to decide until we hit the stage for the first time. I'll probably go with 4x10 as I really don't feel like upgrading cabinets If neccessary in addtion to the amp. Anyway, 1x15 costs below $400 so having one for a backup in addtion to 4x10 and 2x10 is not a bad idea.

BTW, I really liked SWR's BigBen sound but have never tried Eden 1x18. I know that BigBen has a BagEnd speaker in it and has very fast response. I'm not sure If Eden 18 will be as good as SWR's.

For its power rating, the WT-400 manual gives the following advice:

One D115XLT or D210XLT 4 ohm cab
One D210T or D210XLT 8 ohm cab
Two D210T or D210XLT 8 ohm cabs
One D410T or D212XLT 4 ohm cab
One D115XL AND One D210T 8 ohm cab

It is best that you don't overtax the amp.

By buying another cab I want be sure that If I decide to get more power, I won't have to upgrade cabinets. You know what I'm sayin'?

For example I got :

WT-400
D-210XLT

If I buy another D-210XLT or D-115 and later decide to upgrade to Navigator or Demeter preamp with power amp, I'll have to get rid of at least one of them. Getting D-410XLT which I like very much in addition to D-210XLT that I currently have, the only thing I would do is ... change the power stuff.

I mean, I hate to sell the gear all over and on, so I'm trying to get the optimal configuration the can be easly upgraded based on my taste.

I called Matt at Eden and he said that for now driving 210 and 410 by WT-400 is possible and shouldn't cause any trouble. Well, I think that's what I'm probably gonna do.

Any thoughts on this ?

Slaphappy, which GC was it? Im always at the Totem Lake one (They know me there!).

Dude, Damian, buy Bag End cabinets. AWESOME AWESOME low end...better than any cabinet ive EVER heard. I dont know if you have a place to check this out near you, but man, these are the ULTIMATE bass cabinets!
