What brands made rickenbacker copies?

I want to know because I stumbled across a copy with a thru-neck, and "rickenbacker" on the headstock, though in a weird font. No photo's at the moment, I'll see if I can add them later.

I heard about greco, ibanez and such. But to my knowledge, they all had either a set neck or a bolt-on. Does anyone know which brand made a copy with a thru-neck? And the actual word "rickenbacker" on the headstock?

No one made a copy of a Rickenbacker with a Rickenbacker name on the headstock.

You either have a genuine Rickenbacker with a homemade TRC on it or you have a fake with a homemade TRC on it, sounds like.

If you get back to look at it, see if there is a serial number on the jackplate. Typically there are two jacks on a Ric jackplate with XX on the top of the plate (as letters but sometimes numbers) and YYYY as numbers on the bottom of the plate.

If there's a number that appears legit, you then have another question that needs answered: is the jackplate a legit jackplate that's been put on a fake Rickenbacker or is it a real Rickenbacker.

Oh, I meant to add that if you read through the Joey's bass notes on identifying a fake Ric, you will probably start being able to differentiate all these fake Rics that people say "look just like a Ric" when in fact they look almost nothing like a Ric other than have a similar shape. ;)

There's a natural finish "rick" hanging out at a pawn shop here in town. The pickups both look close but not quite the same as I'm used to seeing. It's also got only one jack... I'd love to go in there and tell them it's not worth the $2500 they're asking nor was it worth the $1500 or so they probably paid the guy who sold it to them... Would be sweet revenge after I got yelled at for checking out the junk hamer slammer bass they've got.

Be careful. There are Rickenbackers that don't look quite like the others. There is the 4004 which looks quite different but similar and also the 4001S and 4003S models that don't have binding and often only have one jack and are contoured a little differently.

It very well may be a legit Rickenbacker.
