I am about to buy one of these amps and wondered what cabs you guys use with your AG 500sc. Please tell me what type of music you play/the tone you are after with the setup.

What cab do you use with your Aguilar AG500?

I used an SWR golly 3 and it was brilliant. Actually too clean and articulate for my current needs though. (check my band links for music styles I play)
A pair of GS112's and and Epifani UL-310.
For an outdoor gig a few years ago I used (1) GS112 on top of a SWR Goliath III.

love the GS112's w/ the ag500. obviously, the EQ is perfectly voiced.
but oddly, the whole epifani line of cabs sounds terrific w/ the ag500, too. from the ul112's, to the ul310 i've owned, the EQ points on the amp sound amazing w/ the epifani gear.
if you can afford the money, the epifani cabs are highly recommended w/ the ag500. if not, look for a nice used pair of gs112's, which should be pretty easy to find on ebay and our own classifieds.

I have a GS112 for smaller gigs, and I'll be getting a GS112NT soon to match. For bigger gigs I have a GS410. I play pop/rock/jazz/singer songwriter/country, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work in any setting. My last amp was an iAMP 800, and I couldn't get used to the clean of it. The AG500 doesn't color your tone, but to me Aguilar has it's own sound, and it just so happens to match the bass tone in my head.
I use mine with EA cxl-112. I play funk, R&B, Pop, Rock and Jazz. But I'm waiting for my new 4 ohm GS410 to arrive

On a recent visit to KJung's we ran my AG500SC through his Bergantino HS210 with my Stingray 4 HH and it sounded beautiful.

+1.. that match up is the first time I really dug the tone of the AG500. However, that's probably because I like it tight and clean sounding and place a big emphasis on even, articulate tone. The HS210 really tightens up the voicing of the AG500 to my ear, and evens it out. However, that's probably not the tone that most who buy the AG500 are going for. It sounds much bigger, more wooly, and with more 'emulated tube warmth and give' through the Aguilar DB112's, and I assume that's closer to the design goals of that amp. It sounds great through the DB's, just not my thing.
Well, I am looking for a cab that is aggressive and punchy. I am going to be using this in a rock band. From what I hear the AG 500 can get pretty aggressive but it has a dry sound.

i like the DB112's w/ the ag500. the highs and lows knob really brings out some aguilar fatness. but frankly, the really aggressive voicing of the db cabs seems to ruin the upper and lower mid EQ knobs on the amp, which are pretty sweet, too. so in a way, sorta ruins your investment, IMHO.
the db line seems to be better suited for the not so versatile 750, which could use all those extra middle mids of the db series.

I use a LDS neo 310 with a multi comp pedal set to tube emulation. Fantastic gigging combo for blues rock in small club venues.
So you find that the GS series works better with the AG 500...I have heard good and bad things about the GS line especially for my playing style. If the GS line can get a little growl I think it would work well.

I will second the AG500+2 GS112 rig. I"ve been using it for the last 6months and am in love with it. As Joker said, the mid presence of the AG500 lends more articulation to the slightly-scooped (to most ears) sound of the GS112's, while the roundness of the GS112's evens out the agressiveness of the AG500. Also, let me add that the AG500 through a GS412 is stupid loud. Just as much 'ouch!' as there is 'oooh'.
frankly, one man's "growl" is another's "fretboard noise". so that's hard for me to call.
for my tastes at least, and i'm primarily a fingerstyle player, the aguilar gs112's have plenty of bite and authority for rock. but the main point is that its up to you if you like a more versatile cab that takes nicely to your amp's EQ, giving you a wider range of sounds, i.e. the GS112. OR if you're mostly the type to leave the EQ alone on the amp and let the cabs do most of the tone shaping for you, and are happy with using one sound for a variety of gigs, i.e the DB112.
truth be told, sounds like you'd be happier as an Eden guy. another amp to consider is the eden wt550. has a nice rockin' growly sound thx to a pushable preamp tube front end. the EQ section isnt nearly as easy to use as the aguilar, but it does allow the amp to be a bit more versatile in a variety of situations.
another more aggressive sounding 1x12, that could also complement the ag500, is the little known eden D112XLT. great little cab that has that trademark eden woolly, edgy, yes... growl. doesnt have that annoying middle range frequency peak of the DB, rather sounds more in line w/ the GS112. and yet, has a much harsher, grittier tweeter that gives the upper mids and highs an almost, dare i say, "growly" character.
couple a pair of those w/ a WT550, and you'd have all the rockin' growl you'd want.
there have been alot of aguilar vs. eden debates for rock, but for your situation, here's my quick take.
ag500 +GS112 would be a versatile, easier to use and on the cleaner, punchy spectrum of the rock sound. the EQ section makes it a no brainer in finding a terrific sound w/ just a few turns of very few knobs. if you dont want much to fuss with and like a cleaner more punchier rock sound, the aguilar is it.
wt550 + D112XLT would be just as versatile, if not moreso thx to the more expansive tho slightly confusing EQ section. push the gain a bit, and its preamp tubed glow puts its rock sound is on the more grittier, somewhat harsher side of the spectrum. it can do clean and punchy as well, but it might take a little more fiddling.
