What cab with an ampeg amp?

Thanks jmatt.

I play in an acoustic band, however I do want an amp and cab combo that is versatile. When playing with the band I will hopefully being going through the amp into the pa. However I do want something to play with both electric and acoustic basses, that can be versatile and can be used for gigs (amp only for the majority of the time), home and recordings.

Will I be better off with the pf500?

And is the ashdown mag410 a good choice for this amp?

Do you think I will NEED the pf500 or would the pf350 suffice? Sound is important, but so is budget.

How is the pf350 and ashdown mag 410 cab combo?

I used this setup (pf350 + mag410) at an ear-plug worthy practice on Tuesday.
It was up high, close to the limit of the amp but it sounded great with lots of punch and lows. A couple of the other band dudes remarked on how good it sounded.

So volume wise it'll go the distance with that 8ohm cab. (We're a rocky/alternative style band)

Now I am seriously considering going with the ashdown mag 300 amp to go with the matching 410 cab, instead of the ampeg pf350/500.

Do you think this is the way to go?

Does anyone have experience with these amps?

Will be running effects with electric and acoustic basses.

Preferences. The MAG300 is much bigger and heavier than the PFs. I like the PFs more than the MAG tone-wise and better portability. Both will be just as loud.

MAGs has big low mid content, very warm. Ampeg has a smoother lows and more mid range content/punch. IMO IIRC YMMV.

It's just my observation: early MAG models suffered a couple of bugs and glitches. The newer ones (2008 and up) are much more reliable.

I'd also go with either a SVT-410HE or a PF-115 cab but that's cause I like the Ampeg tone (I like Ashdown too but more with the ABM and LB tones).

PF-350 vs PF-500: get the PF-500 if you need the extra features. They really come in handy, imo, and I almost got a PF-500/SVT-410HE myself.

Still considering the pf amps. More specifically the pf500 at this stage. In terms of cabs I will be wanting to go with either if the pf ones (115 or 210).

Going to have a play of them both tomorrow or the next day. What should I be looking(listening) for in terms of difference? Any advice?

Ideally down the track I'll buy a second cab (same or other) to complete the rig.
