What Cab would you buy?

Hey James,

Like others have said, a lot of unknowns about your situation to give you good advice. You have to consider what genre, power handling, your taste in tone, etc. Taking a guess, if you want a specific, available suggestion, trying to stay close to your budget, here would be mine...

For Sale - SCHROEDER 212PL CABINET BRAND NEW FREE SHIPPING

The seller is asking $600, but shipping is included. If you were to buy a $500 dollar cab, it would come close to that after shipping. I have confirmed directly with Jorg Schroeder that the newest 212PL's (with the rectangular port) function better at the lower range than older models (newer: 35 Hz to 18 KHz), he just hasn't updated the website. Website says 800 watts or 1000 watts. Again, website has not been updated to reflect higher power models he has available. The used link is for a 1200 watt model. (BTW, I have had no contact with, and I have have no affiliation with the seller. Just saw the ad, and thought it had a reasonable chance to fill your need.)

I didn't have a lot to spend myself, so I picked up a used, older model 212PL. Schroeders are light, efficient, and loud. I really have enjoyed mine. I have owned Peaveys, Ampegs and Acoustics, but my Schroeder 212PL is my favorite. Barefaced, Fearless, Bergantino and some other more expensive brands (even used) would be outside of your budget, so a discussion about buying them would be off topic, IMHO. I think a used Schroeder would be an outstanding value!

why do all that though? I’m of the belief that the best rig is passive bass into a great head and great cab. If you get that setup you can run pretty much flat and have a killer tone.

just me...but if you have to run all kinds of eq and filters then, sure...it gets the job done, but why not get as pure as you can without boosting and cutting?

Good point. I am just sold on Mesa products from what I have read/researched.

+100...a smart, ethical, and honest artisan who is a pelasure to business with. The only downside when it comes to buying from Duke is that his products are in such high demand that it requires a bit of a wait to get an order filled...but on the up-side, that wait is always worth it IME!! :)
