Wow that jazz is just so nice! I have always been baffled that Fender Japan has so many choices with there basses compared to USA. You would think that Fender being founded as an american bass manufacturer that they would allow the most variety and options to the US market. I guess if they did that, it would eat in to the custom shop profits. Sucks for us :spit:

I prefer Fenders in this order: MIJ/CIJ > MIM > USA > Squier

Based on price, playability, etc, I feel that the MIJ and CIJ instruments are far more worth it than their American counterparts.

I own a CIJ P-Bass and prefer it easily over the others.

Fender Japan gets away with making basses not made in the states by using materials that are not as prevalent here. Japan ash basses are heavier than MIA basses as well as not matched (bookmarked)as well. MIA basses must follow strict regulations as far as painting them where as that's not a problem there! Japan basses for the most part are copies (some very good) of MIA basses, although some come in VERY NICE colors! Fender Japan makes inferior electronics compared to Fender MIA basses, even the Sting bass as nice as it is is almost impossible to intonate! The Marcus Miller basses pre-amp is the week point in it. Some don't like the so called "vintage USA" pups. The Geddy bass has painted on blocks and until recently has sub par tuners that tarnished in a years time, Hell all my MIM basses still have shiny tuners! At $600 bucks it was a good deal, they add decent tuners and raise the price 100%! GTFOH! Fender Japan makes a 75RI jazz but it has 60's spacing and so called "vintage" pups, The MIA version is an exact replica down to the "vintage 75" pups. Fender Custom Shop has no need to worry about Fender Japan, I own both basses and they are miles apart!!! Fender USA has nothing to worry about when it comes to Fender Japan, I have owned and played both and would take Fender USA any day of the week! Fender Japan is a great alternative if you really need a special color or want to spend less money. JMHO and my .02

Now that brown jazz looks nice and it is said above the bass is walnut? Well the bass is actually ash painted walnut color. I owned a walnut p-bass and while a nice bass it was VERY HEAVY! now that may not mean much but try playing all night with a 12-13 pound bass around your neck! I don't care what type of strap you use you will find a lighter bass!

A buddy of mine has one of those MIJ walnut basses ...


I'll have to ask him where and how he got it,
a very nice bass, but he did change the pickups IIRC.

Yes you can get new CIJ's Try Jo's Music or I got mine from Ishibashi Music Both are in Tokyo. Mine was 64,000 yen, $899.00 US with shipping and import tax it cost me just over $1200.00 (conversion rates change I just checked and today it would have been $720.00) It takes a while too. Things get tied up in customs. Expect 2-3 months.

Wow, things sure have changed. About two years ago I purchased directly from Ishibashi and the time from placing my order to receiving the bass in NJ was about 5 days..
