That I do know, he wanted a fatter sound, and installed a set of Fat Tone Supers IIRC, unfortunatly they are no longer available
The bass is really not that heavy BTW maybe 9 lbs

Mine was shipped in Jan 2008. It was tied up in customs. Maybe the Feds just dont like me?

Fender Japan never said its walnut. Ash was specifically mentioned in catalogues
Until now, I still wonder why Fender USA prohibits importation of brand-new Fender Japan in mainland USA. Why? Do they feel threatened by the build quality of FJ? I believe that even if FJ is cheaper, if the quality sucks, then American bass players would still go with more expensive US made. So I think F-USA is afraid of sales drop if FJ is allowed to be imported in US of A. I maybe wrong though
What will become of the MIM products if fender japan instruments are authorized ? And yes, they feel threatened which is completely understandable when you've played a few fender MIJ/CIJ instruments.
People will still buy MIM basses! You hear it here all the time how they tried MIA and MIM basses in the store and they picked the MIM bass! for what ever reason they will still buy them. As far as the Japan bass being a threat I don't think it will make that much of a difference, sure they make pretty colors but still don't sound as good as their MIA counterpart! I have sold three of my four MIJ/CIJ basses because they lacked something. An unlined fretless that had a truly uninspired sound!, A Sting bass that was nothing fantastic and hard to intonate. A Marcus Miller that played really nice but was a tad heavier than my Ash/maple neck MIA jazz. The MM bass also had a pre-amp that was a bit much and sounded shrill with the treble boosted, boomy with the bass boosted. My Geddy still has a home though I did remove the badassII bridge! The bottom line for me is after owning 14 Fenders at one time I was able to play them all and see for myself who was making what! My take is MIM basses are good entry level basses that leave room for upgrades or any kind of personalization one might want, whether it's electronic changes or hardware changes. I own a MIM precision with Fralins, sold one with 1/4 pounders and I still own a MIM DLX. MIJ/CIJ basses seem to be copies of MIA basses past with a few exceptions. There weekness is in the hardware and electronics (like MIM basses) but the finishes are very good with attention to neck profiles. Some sport made in USA vintage pups but if Fender Japan was so great in making a product as good or better than Fender MIA why would they need to put that on their basses? They are trying to say yeah this bass will sound as good as a MIA bass now!!! They know what they are selling! I know a couple of cats that play MIJ/CIJ jazzes and both have installed Audere pre's. As far as new Fender's go I have bought a bunch of new ones and NEVER had one that was bad! I never took one back for any reason, I never had one fall apart, I never had a neck go bad, I never had one with bad pups. And this is with Fenders made MIM, MIA, MIJ/CIJ.
Let me ask you, do you think Fender USA and Fender Japan are two different companies? Fender also makes basses that are export only I happen to own one I know! It's a CAR 75RI FSR to be sold on the European market with only 200 pieces built. Wel something happened along the way and 140-160 stayed home and was sold here! I know the Japan stuff is MUCH more appealing to me. they just come up with cooler stuff. ive said it a billion times and ill say it again. the japanese are so enamoured with western pop culture and dont take it for granted as much as we do. they fixate on it until they find ways to take it far beyond what we could ever imagine. the detail, the color schemes everything is amazing. they really have their finger on the pulse of cool

I dont know and I don't care. I was only asking WHY FENDER USA prohibits importation of FENDER JAPAN in mainland USA? I never mentioned in my whole life that FENDER USA sucks or FENDER USA is inferior to Fender Japan. All I know is that Fender CBS went here in 1982 because the Japanese copies were selling like hotcakes.
