What color do you prefer for hardware?

Depends on the color of the bass. Here are some of my matchups:

Sunburst - Chrome
Walnut - Black
Mahogany - Gold
Red - Black
Purple - Gold

Yes, nickel should be in the list... I guess it falls under "chrome". But it looks fairly different (and nicer in imho) when aged

Black for modern basses, chrome for classics.

I like black with modern, wood finishes & chrome with painted finishes.

Nickel also. Not as blue as chrome.

Nickel is more 'classic' than chrome. AFAIK all the early hardware was nickel until the late seventies. I prefer the brown undertone it has. Nice patina with age.
