What color pickguards?

I can never get past tort . . I have a spare in white pearloid but it's never been on.

Looking at this question from a fresh perspective tho' . . have you considered tort and tort?

I have to agree with your thought of black on each... my bass instructor from about 18 years ago had a 70's p just like yours with a black PG and i'm still lusting after it!

+1 on the Black & Black. I have a natural '75 P-Bass w/black PG, and it looks great. On the burst, while I love the tort, I also love the black. I've had bursts with both tort and black. Can't go wrong with either; but I definitely prefer the black on the natural.

i may get both black and tort guards for the SB-2 -- but the custom black hdstk on the G&L begs for a matching guard.

I'm gonna go with tort for the G&L, and maybe some sort of figured leather for the natural finish Precision.
