what color should i paint my MTD635?

Quick Tip: heating this over an open flame will yield a nice faux-flamed finish. A gas range is preferred but acetylene blowtorch will do in a pinch.



DISCLAIMER: This is a JOKE. I'm KIDDING. I'm not dumb enough to actually try this. Hope you aren't either. :hmm:

Fred, I am glad to see somebody has the cojones to do what they want, instead of listening to a bunch of coffee table bass owning morons who probably don't even play their $5000 basses.

I think that the cobalt blue would work very well.

I am trying to find a good source for metalflake pink so I can repaint my Nordstrand.

I am going to do it 80's style. Paint the fingerboard, headstock, and back of the neck all the same color as the body.

But I would like some advice on the pickups. Should I paint them pink too, or should I paint them black and then use some silver enamel to make some fake polepieces? This wood look just isn't doing it for me!

I wonder if I can find somebody who will pink anodize the hardware?

Do you think that pink metalflake will look good on this?

May I suggest you go with flourescent orange and avocado green? I loved how the kitchen on the 'Brady Bunch' looked.

But the big metal-flake pink would still look awesome. Maybe the avocado green/flourescent orange motif would look great in place of those yucky natural wood pickup covers.

Just my 2 cents, I'm going back to huff more spray-paint now!!!

might i suggest a background of white and then putting the overspray dots and streaks on it like the old Ibanezes?

you should consider cutting some pointy horns and splinters into it also for that "metal look".

Yeah, I don't like the singlecut look, so the body is definitely going to get some customizing done with a chainsaw.

Two choices:

- Home Depot antique crackle paint, "Venetian cream/burgundy." Of course, buy the two-step process. Those one-step antique crackles just aren't respectable enough.

- bleach the wood, paint it in a three-color sunburst, then drill some extra holes like you just removed a pickguard. Then throw some bricks at it, maybe drag it behind your car for a mile or two. It will look as cool as Jaco's!!!!!

Funny, I am refinishing a bass and the longer I work on it the more it starts to look like Jaco's bass. Damn that sand paper.
