What Covers Do You Hate To Play?

Cool thread idea............especially since most of us have been through it so often. Really though, it's gonna happen, somebody is always requesting something "stupid" or "cliche"...........but that's the musician in you thinking. The knucklehead drunk in the crowd likely doesn't think like a musician (if they think at all :rollno:) , and in fact, they may be requesting the coolest song ever, as far as they're concerned. Oh well, I'm just happy to be gigging, instead of being the knucklehead, so I can usually withstand the stupid request, and give it the full 3 minutes or so that it probably (doesn't) deserve.

That being said, don't even bother to say "Wipeout". I won't. I just won't. :scowl:

LOL, we just started doing Mony Mony, and our guitar player was singing it. He had a real tough time with the timing of the lyrics, and kept rushing the chorus, so by the time we were all playing the IV (Bb), he was already singing the "yeah" part. It was like watching Steve Martin from The Jerk trying to snap his fingers and dance to the beat.

About a million years ago I was in a band where several of us sang, so we just switched the vocal around, 'you do this one I'll do that one and he'll do that other one' kind of thing. The biggest trainwreck we did was one that I ended up singing because no one else could get the rhythm right. But it was actually pretty rhythmically simple. I never could figure out why they had probs with it. I decided they just didn't want to sing it. It was...

Gimme Some Lovin' - Spencer Davis Group

Back in 1991 I was the bass player w/ the house orchestra on a cruise ship sailing around the Carribbean and Mexican Riviera for four months. Seven nights a week, usually four shows a night (sometimes only two), for four solid months.

...and every single night I wound up playing "Girl From Ipanema" and "New York, New York" at least once.

If I ever have to play either of those tunes again I will KILL someone!

Proud Mary too fast (Ike & Tina style) is torture for me. I tend to get all violent like Curly Howard when he hears 'Pop Goes The Weasel'. With a little Tazmanian Devil tornado action thrown in. I get all twisted up in my cables.
However, a proper cover of Proud Mary (Creedence) is like going to church. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

I don't tell the customer that I hate the song, but I might show them this list:
