What did I buy at Goodwill?

So, I bought this at Goodwill for $20 (20%off the sticker). But after looking, I don't think it's an Epiphone. I've been looking all over for a headstock like this, and can't find anything. The body looks like a Squire, there's one screw that is out of place, but it's pretty darn close.
Did someone put an Epiphone neck on this? Is it counterfeit? What is it?
For 20, I did alright. One of the pots is broken, and missing that knob, but the pickups work, and it sounds fine. A few small dings, but it's in pretty good shape.

I think that's the Epiphone headstock. For 20 bucks that's a good deal!

I looked for over an hour earlier, with no luck. Now I am 99% sure I've found it. It's an Epiphone Bat Wing, everything matches up. Looks like it came with a thumb? rest on the top of the pickguard, on mine it's missing, but there's matching holes, so it was there at some point. Serial number looks like it was made in 2001. It must have sat in someones closet for the last 23 years...
Mystery solved.

Yeah, that's an epiphone. I'd guess it's late 90s, or very early 2000s. Entry level bass, but probably decent for what it is. Certainly worth $20!

Epiphone Accu Bass Jr. (EB "ebony" finish, which is just black)

(The headstock not being painted black differentiates it from the non-Jr., and its batwing profile places the manufacturing in the 1997-2002 period.)

I'd guess earlier than that. I don't have a specific date, but I would guess 80's is more likely. Some Epiphone aficionado will be long eventually to set us both straight.

Just looked a bit online - apparently those are early to mid 90's, and are referred to as "bat wing" models.

Even if it was non-playable or a non-working bass for some reason I'd still buy at that price. In that case I'd use it as wall art or do something creative with it like drilling a hole in the body to make it into a cool looking and functional clock. Another ideal is to make into a table lamp. Nice find!

Those basses were made in the same factories and distributed under different brands around the early 2000’s. Samick iirc. They came bundled as a starter kit with an amp. They also all have that same 6 screw bridge, p body design, single ply guard and a thumb rest. My 2005 Silvertone is identical but with a different headstock shape. Got it for $50 at a yard sale. Gotoh GB707 tuners fit perfectly. I did that and put emg geezers in mine. Really solid p basses.
