Today I learned that buttermilk pie is the best pie in the world!

I learned this morning just how many steps i’ve lost in my advanced dotage. I was going to step out the back door to see what the outside temp was all about. As i went to open the door i noticed an irregular hump protruding from the door sill as i opened the door, and the only thing that saved me from taking a bite from a largish copperhead was I realized what it was when it drew up to strike. I closed the door and watched it crawl off the porch into the azalea bushes. Except for stepping on a big cottonmouth while running around a farm pond when i was a kid, I was running wide open and the snake was stretched out crawling so i touched down and was off before it had time to do more than flop into a loose coil. Aside from that, this was the first time since then i didn’t register a venomous snake before it spotted me.
I’m getting slow these days, that’s what i learned today.
