What did you learn today?

Liver, eaten once or twice per week, can fix near anemia.
Back story.....
CBC bloodwork(work physical, 3/13/20) showed "almost anemia" numbers in RBC, Hemoglobin, & Hematocrit(all were barely LOW).
Ate liver about 3 times over the course of 2 weeks(meals at night) and set up appt. with my regular doc. He ran a "Comprehensive Anemia Profile" on 3/27/20 that showed diet had put those 3 numbers back into "normal range". The rest of the profile results were good too.

So now liver is a once or twice a week item. My Mom used to feed it to us when I was a kid so I actually like it. Always better to fix issues with nutrition when possible.

It helps that you like it. Glad to know it works, but gah, I hate the stuff. I reckon I could choke it down if I had to.

My take on social distancing, and shelter in place was...10 or 12 daze ago...that my fellow citizens don’t have...have never developed the sense of self discipline necessary to carry this through for 3 (critical) weeks; no matter the 2 to 3 MONTHS that might be necessary to put a lid on this thing.

Mrs. Harp and I live in a wonderful, sweet, safe home, with more books than we’ll ever be able to read, access to the internet, 57 channels (and nothin’ on), a partner that I genuinely love and enjoy!

Many of my fellow human beans are not so blessed by the Universe.

i’m thinking for the first time in my life my lack of any desire for human contact is working as a positive thing.
But yeah, we’ve still got a frightening number of locals still saying it’s a hoax and acting like complete tools.

What the coronavirus does to your body that makes it so deadly

… There are still many mysteries about this virus and coronaviruses in general – the nuances of how they cause disease, the way they interact with proteins inside the cell, the structure of the proteins that form new viruses and how some of the basic virus-copying machinery works.

Another unknown is how COVID-19 will respond to changes in the seasons. The [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], both in the northern and southern hemispheres. Some other human coronaviruses spread at a low level year-round, but then seem to peak in the spring. But Invalid Link Removed why these viruses vary with the seasons.

What is amazing so far in this outbreak is all the good science that has come out so quickly. The research community learned about structures of the virus spike protein and the ACE2 protein with part of the spike protein attached just a little over a month after the genetic sequence became available. I spent my first 20 or so years working on coronaviruses without the benefit of either. This bodes well for better understanding, preventing and treating COVID-19.

Today I learned that my brother has been admitted to the respiratory ward of St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix for pnumonia. Right with all of the COVID-19 patients. Scary times just got scarier...
